I was wondering if anyone could tell me the best way to get to Isla Mujeres from RPLA. We are doing the island on our own we might get a golfcart or just walk. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

if prices are not a problem then a taxi from rpla to port juarez is 150 pesos each way from the rpla think it was 7 dollars each way on the ultramar and a golf cart for the day around 45-50 dollars a great and enjoyable way to see the island without any hassle.

or you may bus it 7pesos to the little port about 3 stops along the road then a very dicey sea trip on the mexicali with a good rollicking but you have to get the last ferry around 5ish to come back this way or just book a one way ticket and come back on the ultramar and jump on a taxi at puerto juarez coming back bus is a little awkward from this port as you have to jump on a bus that will then drop you of at a stop to catch one for the hotel zone.

we went over twice first time we went the cheapest means by bus second time we used the taxis if there are 4 of you in my opinion then taxi is the easy option

    Another option

You can catch an Ultrimar Ferry at Playa Torturgas. (6.5km). It will save you a trip to Puerto Juarez. A quick bus or taxi ride to Playa Torturgas.

I recomend renting a golf cart on the Isla. It allows you to set your own schedule. And it is fun!

def do a golf cart and just explore yourself, it's only 7 miles long so you can knock it out in 3 or 4 hours with plenty of time to spare for the beach :)

Just be aware if you do the Ferry from Tortugas, the last Ferry back to Cancun is between 4:30 and 5:30. To Puerto Juarez, it's 11:30 or midnight. Don't limit yourself to save a couple dollars.

Perhaps leaving from Tortugas, then coming back through Puerto Juarez/Gran Puerto, would give them the best of both options. (Gran Puerto is the dock for the UltraMar.)

I would do it from Gran Puerto. There are fewer tourists than going from the Hotel Zone and you would get a bit of local flavor. The R-1 bus that says Puerto Juarez on the front stops in front of the Port. It first takes you downtown, you make a right on Tulum and pass the epicenter of downtown, then make another right. Then you go over an overpass and you can see a tall structure dead ahead. That is where you get off the bus. To get back to the HZ, leave the port, cross the street and get on any R-1 bus.

the r1 was not going near the port when we were there we had to jump of downtown and get one of them small mini buses same coming back. but the taxi to the hotel zone from the port was cheap only 150 pesos which was a lot easier than jumping on buses and hanging around.
