I would not recommend using the one in the hotel gift shop. It dispenses US dollars and has outrageous fees. The one by the little store at the end of the parking lot is much more reasonable. The amount of cash you need depends on how much you leave the resort and how much shopping you do. We probably give $50 day in tips at the resort if we eat in one of the better restaurants and spend all day and night at the bars.
I used the one in the gift shop and it said it was only a $3 fee to use it but when I checked my checking account when I got home, I was charged almost an extra $50 plus an international fee from my bank of $11. I contacted my bank to see what I can do about it since I had the receipt but I am just considering it a loss..... so be careful! The one in the gift shop is the only one close that gives you US dollars and not pesos....
I put together a minimum budget for our 7 day trip. Maid 7 nights 3.00 = 21.00 If they do special work I tip more Bartenders 7 days 5.00 = 35.00 Waiters 7 days 3.00 = 21.00 I usually tip more than this Airport going 20.00 = 20.00 Food and whatever Airport returning 20.00 = 20.00 Wife shopping 100.00= 100.00 Taxi to shopping "spoiled"= 20.00 she would get lost on the bus Rio's Steakhouse= 60.00 1 night of spoiling us, across the street Speciality Rest.= 20.00 Depends on how many nights we do it USA Transfer= 85.00 stopping at Walmart to buy stuff 30.00 Wife additional shopping= 100.00 spoiled again kids and grandkid stuff (junk) Additional tips= 100.00 because when I drink I am generous Total 562.00 Remember this is a minimum without excursions. I will probably take 700.00 cash and Ccards if needed..... I have not seen a breakdown on here, so I thought I would put mine here. Hope this helps Don
