Just read a review on trip advisor that said the couple had their wedding rings stolen from their room safe. Is there a problem keeping valuables in the safe?

I have never had a problem with the room safe, you choose the code for it , so its hard to hack unless its someone from the hotel or security team does it, which I would highly doubt. So I think the safe is perfectly "safe" lol

Their maintenance people can open it, ours was locked when we checked in and they were able to open it. I would highly doubt they would have opened it otherwise. Never had a problem.

I agree with all of the above. The safe is safe:icon_razz:
Like Donald said, more along the lines of user error than anything else. One night after we came back from drinking at Patty O's all night, I totally changed the code and added an extra number. Luckily, the next morning when my wife couldn't get into the safe, I remembered and we were able to access it. So, were their rings stolen? Possibly. Was the safe hacked into? Probably not.

Their safe system is not overly secure as many people have problems with them. If the safe is locked or not, the staff, besides cleaning, should not be in your room. We have never had one problem. However, I have encouraged my wife to leave her valuables at home but she still takes them. With alcohol, the ocean, the pool and many other factors it is much easier to lose something. Please be careful and leave the heirlooms at home. Just my 1 cent worth.

Have not been to a TTR, but we stayed at secrets silversands last year. We stored 1K in cash, and about 1.5K in jewlery along with our camers, passports, CC's, and drivers licenses...... never had a problem. That being said, I'm sure there a bad apples in every resort....... Really not a lot of choices. Either dont bring it, or carry it with you if you do....... Only thing that would of hurt us to lose would of been our passports. We dont bring the "good" jewlery, and only enough cash for the 2 weeks.
Check your insurance also, they might cover your loss if one occures. That will ease you mind some as well.
