    Hello all!

New to the forum, have learned so much just from browsing the last few weeks. So here's my newb question:

My wife and I are looking at going to Temptations with some friends the last week of January. I just did a quick price check comparing going in Oct and it was $1100 cheaper to go in October. I don't travel that much, but figured you would get a better deal in Jan/Feb since your booking farther out. So, should I wait to book the January trip? How much do prices fluctuate the closer you are to the date you want? Why would Jan. be so much higher than Oct? Thanks for any help! Look forward to meeting some of you in January

Personally, I find January to be fairly cheap. Right now we're considering a trip in mid-January that will cost $1,000 per person, flight, hotel, taxes, and transfers included. That's flying out of Toronto, but I've checked and found deals almost as good flying from New York or Philadelphia.

That being said, I've never checked October. But I don't think October could be $1,000 cheaper than January given the prices I'm finding :)

We've been in February and March and it's always been fun. We are going the last week of October next and we were very surprised how much less it is in October. About 25-30% less. Not say don't go in Jan or Feb but if you can make it late October it's a great deal.

We are doing 8 nights at the end of October and got it for under $2000 for both of us flying out of Springfield, MO. We booked through Apple Vacations.

We went in January 2011 and booked a month before the trip.

I just looked for October since we are trying to go again (it's a habit) and the price is within $100 of what we paid in January.

I anticipate that the reason January is so high right now is because it is so far out. Since you are not traveling on peak travel times for airlines (holidays etc) you should be able to get some good deals on websites like expedia or travelocity. I would recommend checking back often however since I have seen big swings in both directions in 24 hour periods.

    Enjoy your vacation!

Thanks for the info. We've been looking at Expedia lately, they seem to be the cheapest I can find right now. Will probably not book yet, just keep checking prices. We're very excited to go to Temptations for the first time. Our friends went last Oct and they loved it. We've only been to Cancun one other time and we stayed at Secrets. Was nice, but not really a party atmosphere. Just reading the boards everyday here has me wishing we could leave tomorrow!!

Interesting. I'm way over on the West Coast in Vancouver, Canada, so we have a 6-hour flight. The best prices listed right now for January are almost identical to the best prices right now for October.

We booked over two months ago when there was no-fuel-surcharge sale and got air, hotel & transfers for Cdn$995 each for 7 nights. The price since then has consistently been $300 higher. I was surprised to get such a good deal in June, as I have been regularly monitoring Cabo and Cancun prices for about 3 years now, and generally the prices for late Oct-early Nov don't start to get more reasonable until the end of August or beginning of September.

I've noticed that booking last minute (1-2 weeks out) yields the best deals, but not everyone can contort their work schedules to accommodate their Desire for a cheap holiday! You know, if I didn't need to work to pay for my holidays, I really wouldn't put up with all that work crap interfering with what I REALLY want to do with my time...
