Is it just me, or has anyone else thought about how silly some of our laws are? For example, it is very difficult to find anything anymore that isn't manufactured in Communist China, but if you get caught with a cigar manufactured in Communist Cuba, you can be severely fined and possibly jailed. We've spent billions bailing out US car companies while the largest area of foreign car ownership in the US is Washington, DC. Seems to go under the heading of "What's wrong with this picture?"
I hear ya, there is so many laws and taxes that make me shake my head, especially here in New York.....Some just make no sense, the end doesnt justify the means...
It's the same over here guys, can't remember the last time we had a tidy goverment. Just watching the annual budget on sky and the Chancellor's just talking shit. Economy is in the poo so he's putting up fuel, drink etc which many struggle to pay for now.
I know, its getting bad all over, In New York they wonder why people are leaving the state to move elsewhere, its because they have taxed everything so much that just to buy basic things is outrageous.....they have bills they are trying to pass to add another tax to soda and sweet drinks....they just keep adding more and more taxes to an already unbelievably expensive state to live in....
Yeah, I always thought it was weird driving by the "Big Three" Car Manufacturers plants in Ontario and the employees parking lots were dominated by Japanese cars. Funny story: I was visiting a buddy in Tulsa when he handed me a Cuban cigar, individually packaged in a plastic tube. I asked him, "How the heck did you get that into the country?". He answered, "I can't tell you ... but don't put the tube in your mouth".....
backs13, I have to deal with NY State Taxation all the time. They are completely out of control. Literally over 95% of the notices we see from NYS Taxation are wrong. They are constantly trying to collect money that isn't owed. One guy got a notice on a corporation that was dissolved in 1988 saying he owed tax to NY. If you or I did this we would be in jail in a matter of minutes. When we called the NYS Attorney General's office about it we were told, and you'll love this, "Our job is to protect the government of NY State, not the citizens!" And the head of that department, Prince Andrew Cuomo, will probably be our next governor. How's that for scary?
Now that is a scary thing, I used to have so much NY pride, when Rudy cleaned up the city and I was able to bring my normally frightened parents down there, My yankees and Giants....but now its just getting to the point where they are driving us out of this state, I live in a rather rural area, the cheapest thing i found for rent when my ex and I split , was 1100 a month for a one bedroom, when I asked why so high, the guy said because city people are coming here to get away from high prices haha...my friend rents a house in South Carolina 3 bedrooms 1 and a half baths on 2 acres for 650.....and they wonder why people are leaving new york....Cuomo...ugh that is scary
If you want to have some fun google a list of taxes that are new in the last 100 years. There is really only one solution, go off the books. If you really start to think about your tax exposure you will puke. 30% of your salary to the fed- Ok 5% or so to the state- Now you have 65% of what is yours. Out of that you pay Sales, gas, 15 different taxes on electricity, cable ad phone. Got a car? there are 4 or 5 taxes for that. Property. Food, clothing, meals, rooms. Should I keep going? Then start to think that every dollar you spend has a hidden amount the vendor has to charge you to pay all of his taxes. Then we get to hire an accountant because no average Joe can really make sense of it all. I'll pretend for a moment that your time to keep track of all of this is worth nothing so you don't feel bad about that. And after all of that the country is completely and utterly insolvent. Wanna hear something funny? It took this country from 1776-1945 through 7 major wars to accumulate the same amount of debt we did in the 28 days of FEBRUARY. Welcome to the power of an exponential curve. I could quite literally type all day about how there is no mathmatical possibility that this can be fixed. NONE. What you really need to start asking yourself is, "what happens when the dollar fails and how can I prepare for that" I may sound crazy to some but economic history is on my side. No fiat currency has ever made it as long as we have right now and all have failed eventually. Its like looking at a living person and assuming they will never die. Just because it has not happened yet doesn't mean it isn't going to. Sorry for the rant,.
I dont think that was a Rant at all, its reality....I always tend not to think of it in the long run like that, cuz its just depressing and I for one like live each day like it could be the last, but what scares me, is my 5 year old daughter growing up in this mess.
Jim, I don't have kids and this is one of the reasons. I am 37, by the time I am 47 the debt will top $30,000,000,000,000.00 That of course doesn't count the unfunded liabilities. If we add that in we start to talk about things that dont make sense, like a laibility of $1,000,000.00 for every person in the country. Yeah, this is solvable:cry:
