Is canadian money accepted at TTR

Hi everybody. Could someone tell me if we can exchange canadian money for pesos in Cancun or at TTR? Can we pay with our visa for any of the excursions or do we have to pay cash? Thanks

 

Retailers down there don't like the Canadian dollar as much as the American and you won't likely get as good an exchange. I just use my ATM card personally. I use Bank of Montreal and have never had issues with the card there. There is also an ATM inside the gift shop if you want to use it.

But always a good idea to tell your bank you will be in Cancun and ensure your PIN is only 4 digits.

if you're willing to use your credit card you'll get a better exchange rate than any of the banks.

 

Except for the cash I bring for tips, I use my credit cards for almost everything. You do get a much better exchange rate, but beware, some banks have started charging new foreign transaction fees. I go at least twice a year and the charges just started showing up on my main card last fall. I use so few pesos down there that I still use leftovers from a cash machine withdraw quite a few trips ago.

 

Much easier to use the ATM...your card should work...just remember you can only use a 4 digit PIN...

 

But in answer to your original question.. yes TTR will change your Canadian money once you get there to Pesos. The rate, while not the best, is usually within 1 to 5% of the best rate. So if convenience is more important than a few cents on the dollar the front desk is available.
