I find it ironic that the network (NBC) that airs the guy is the one airing the most about the scandal. Saving face?
it's just the way it is these days. so many media outlets, every 'issue' seems to suffocate. Add Political Correctness to the mix and this will happen more and more often. I certainly don't approve of his comments, but I wish things didn't have to be dragged out to a ridiculous degree so that other people who are not involved can get a few more minutes of fame and a few more dollars in their pockets. :-|
Imus sucks. and Im not just saying it cause Im a Stern fan. Has anyone ever heard his show???? it is the most unentertaining thing I have ever heard. Im suprised his comments came out, I didnt think there was anyone around to hear it.
I don't think anyone thinks his comments were appropriate, and I would not watch his show or any of the other shows like his. With that said, my feelings are that he is an entertainer, and is entitled to say about whatever he wants to say. I don't like to listen to that type of talk, and chose not to watch his show.
I don't care for the dude either. Never watched or listen, never will. Just tired of hearing about it over and over again in the press. Gotta agree with Dennis, it just gives certain people more air time. Another thing that I found interesting this morning was that The Today Show (of NBC) gave about 10 seconds of news about the North Carolina Attorney General's Office concluding their investigation of the Duke Lacrosse team and will probably be announcing that all charges are going to be dropped. But they of course spent probably an hour on the Imus/Rutger's story. Don't suppose that those people seeking face time will be apologizing to the Duke Lacrosse players, the three player's parents who paid for their defense, Duke University, the fired Lacrosse coach, as well as the three players that were railroaded do you? However Whoopie Goldberg made a good point today as well... you can get away with those types of comments in a comedy club but there are some things that you shouldn't do or say on national media.
I'm not saying that what Imus said was appropriate, but I do agree with those saying that there is a double standard these days when it comes to who can say these things and who cannot. Why then is it acceptable in rap songs/videos? Speaking of double standards, exactly how is it "punishment" for Imus to be given an unexpected two weeks' vacation? You or I could not afford two weeks suspension from work -- but I think to a millionaire like Imus it will not hurt too much.
I disagree. I live just outside of NYC. He is on the radio here every day. I think this suspension is very damaging to him and his career. This is the month where radio stations/programs go to the advertisers and ask for money. Imus is a radio legend. The amount of advertising $$ his show will lose from this will put his future in doubt. It's a business. If people stop listening, then he will be gone. If the advertisers pull out of his time slot, then he will be gone. Ultimately, it's between him and 12 Rutgers basketball players though.
What Imus said was in bad taste. But, why should he not be allowed to say it? Its up to the public to decide whether or not to listen to him. One more step in Big Brother making decisions for us. And apologizing to a RACIST scumbag like Sharpton????????? I would spit in that guys face before I apologized to him. If Imus had any guts he would have called Sharpton on his past race relations.
