I have an apartment in the hotel zone that I rent out. I have a client coming in the end of May for 4 weeks and requires I have internet service. I have no phone line however I understand I can still get some sort of service on a month to month. Is this correct or not? If correct could someone forward the comany and phone number to get service. If I can't get month to month and don't have a phone line and am willing to commit to a contract who do I go to for service? This needs to be in place by May 28. Thank you in advance for your help.
Get a regular phone line and have them connect internet service with it. Cost is about US$35-40 per month. Good for local calls too. Note that if you want just don't plug in the phone. That way the customer will not have capability to use the phone line itself. When they are gone diconnect the service. I think there is an installation fee as well. Note you will need an FM-3 for this though if its in your name.

I would give Axtel & Cablemas a try. Does your apartment have a TV with Sky or Cablemas?? Cablemas uses the same system as the TV to provide Internet & Axtel will install an Antenna that will give you phone & Internet. Personally i use Infinitum but i would give Axtel a try.
Bring a laptop into your condo and see if there is a signal from somewhere nearby. If you're lucky you won't need a passcode. Or, perhaps one of your neighbors might be willing to let you mooch off their wireless for a few weeks.
We have Sky TV. With that in mind can we do something through them or what direction should I go with you knowing that. Thanks for the help
I don't know if you can get internet through Sky, never heard that you could. There's an outfit here called Internet Cancun that provides internet via a dish. Last I checked they were pretty expensive, but for folks who live where you can't get telephone or tv cable lines it's an option. One friend who lives on the beach and entirely off the grid uses it. .:: Internet Cancun ::. Telmex provides Infinitum service, this is DSL service, you need a landline to get it. Last I knew you had to sign a 2 year contract. Seems to be the most reliable service here, it's what I have, I think I've been down for a grand total of about 3 hours since October 2005, that's pretty reliable. Paquetes especiales de conexión internet y servicios de telefonía, Telmex Cablemas provides internet, but you have to be a tv cable subscriber too, I think. Several friends have this service and swear it's great, meanwhile they have lots more downtime than I do. I used to have Cablemas internet and it was down at least 1 day a month, I was always in their office nagging them for credit for downtime. No idea what your contract period would be with them. Cablemas.com Some friends here have used IUSACell's 3G satellite internet service wherein they plugin a card to a slot on the computer and use prepaid internet time. All reports I've heard say it isn't terribly reliable, every friend who has used it has said they got disconnected a lot and that it was often slow. People who've used it only recommend it if there's no other choice, it seems. But obviously your commitment as a landlord would be minimal. Iusacell - 3G Axtel, which someone mentioned seems to be yet another telephone company providing DSL internet service (if I read the site correctly), you would need a landline to use their service. I know nothing about them except that I often see Axtel trucks parked in the Cablemas lot so they seem to be in bed together somehow. http://www.axtel.com.mx/ Hope that helps.
Tekcel offers a USB antenna/dongle what will get you onto their 3g WiFi network at speeds up to 1.5 bps. This is the solution I used for renters of my apartment. Details and priceing can be seen at Telcel: Servicios de Internet Telcel's 3G is very reliable and in the ZH very robust.
Just spoke with a friend who has used both IUSACell's USB 3G card and also TelCel's, and she says TelCel's is cheaper and more reliable.
