Heading down to Riu Palace Mexico in a few days and was looking for any info that would be useful during our trip. How is the beach by RPM? Are other resorts in close proximity? How far of a walk to Mamitas beach club from RPM? how hard is it to get reservations for the restaurants?

It's been a few years (six to be exact) since we stayed at the Riu Palace in PDC. The beach there was pretty deep and, from what I remember, jutted out in the water slightly compared to the resorts on either side, which, by the way, are Riu properties also. The Riu Palace is one of four Riu resorts that are right next to each other just south of PDC. As a "six star" resort, guests of the Riu Palace could use facilities at any of the other Riu properties. However, guest at those properties could not use the Riu Palace (I don't know if that's still the policy).

I'm not familiar with Mamitas beach club, so I can't tell you how far it is, but I CAN tell you that it's about a 10-15 minute walk from the Riu Palace to 5th Avenue and the Ferry to Cozumel.

Finally, as for reservations at the restaurants, I honestly don't remember making reservations (maybe we did and I just forgot).

    Enjoy!

just back from a wonderful stay at RPM. The hotel and beach are beautiful. The food was pretty good and the staff was very attentive. There are other Rui resorts in the area that the RPM and RPRM guest can use but they cant use the palace facilities. The beach area is wonderful and huge. Wait service on the beach only happens on Fri, Sat, and Sun though. Bring your own insulated cup as the drinks are served in 8 oz cups. Reservations for the restaurant were not hard to obtain but you did have to get in line by 0830 to make reservations. I have several pics of the resort and beach if anyone is interested. We would recommend this resort to anyone as our group had no real complaints other than the only beer is XX.
