while bragging at work about going to mexico,,my coworkers told me don't drink water or use ice,,,whats the real deal?
The water at all the resorts is filtered and potable so no worries on using either at the resort. If you leave I would recommend sticking to bottled.
Feel free to drink water and use ice at TTR. I always do both, no problem. But, I drink water out of the bottles provided, and I only eat the ice in alcoholic beverages .... so.... I don't know.
Whoa...whoa...whoa. The booze is free? Jesus I could do some damage with free booze. Wonder why I've never heard of this..must be going to the wrong resorts.
Early last June, lots of the guests got a nasty stomach bug. Some people thought it might be the ice or water. Long story short, it had to do with an excessive amount of rain that overwhelmed the sanitation capabilities of Cancun...along with some contaminated lettuce. That same thing caused a recall on lettuce imported from Mexico. So it wasn't just TTR, it was most of the resorts there. Best advice is to use your own drinking mug. Having watched how they rapidly clean the plastic glasses at the resort, having your own mug mitigates that risk. I think you're ok with the ice and water from the resort.
Let's face it, a lot of us will get sick, or have the "runs" for a short amount of time when in foreign climes. Some folk are way too eager to blame the water, ice, buffet, whatever, when it is likely to be a combination of sun, alcohol, dehydration and exposure to the local "bugs" that your body has not encountered before. (I'm not talking about the June outbreak situation discussed above - a different kettle of fish altogether). I have always suffered at least one day of "the trots" until the last 3 trips to Mexico, and I put this down to the fact my body is actually now used to Mexico and it's indigenous bacteria! :daisy: GoGo - Microbiologist (Famous last words - bringing the Imodium in December just in case!)
