I had to modify our dates because my wife’s first day back in school is September 8th…Our Dates are August 30 thru Sept 6… I need to plan our trip accordingly but I don’t want to miss some of the fun activities that the resort offers… Hoping folks that have been to the resort already can help me… Here is what I need to incorporate into our vacation and my action plan…. Tuesday, arrive, settle in, explore the resort to know where everything is…maybe go out into the town for dinner if I cant beg my way into the Asian or Seafood restaurant. Wednesday take in the sun all day and enjoy the resort with a backup plan of going into Cancun if the weather sucks, Thursday my wife would like to swim with dolphins, I don’t care for it, I think its overrated but to her it would be ideal so planning this for Thursday during the day….MY QUESTION, IS SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS AN ALL DAY EVENT, HALF DAY, THE PROCESS ITSELF, LEAVING THE RESORT, DOLPHINS AND BACK AT THE RESORT? If it’s not an all day resort, then I want to maybe squeeze in some Jet Skiing for Thursday afternoon. Friday, maybe one of those Exploration tours during the day or a long long dinner at a really good place. Saturday lounge all day weather permitting. Sunday Isla de Mujeres tour. Monday lounge, rehab…. I think the most important questions in order to plan this properly are: Should I try to book all this stuff before I get there OR can these things be booked once I get there without having to pay jacked up prices OR potentially not being able to book bc of full capacity? IF anyone has gone out for long calm dinner in Cancun, did you have to make reservations before you arrived or are the all pretty much walk-in service regardless of price tag? Any recommendations on restaurants, preferably NOT American, I can get that in NJ… I know, I know, lengthy e-mail…first resort vacation for me, don’t want to ruin it…I always always find local rental properties and rent for the week and I do all the cooking and visit the local pubs and clubs and take in the town… Your feedback is greatly appreciated…
Personally I wouldnt book anything in advance, Cuz lots of times people get there and do not realize how much fun the resort and people you meet are. You may not want to leave or you may want other people to join you. There is a place right inside the hotel that can help you book multiple things for your vacation upon arrival or at anypoint during your stay that you want to do something. I believe Temptations still has the highest repeater rate in Cancun, lots of that is because of how much fun you can have right at the resort. The RIO right across the street is a Brazillian steak house that I personally think is great, if you have never tried a place like that before, give it a shot, if your looking for mexican food then someone else on here can recommend a place, But the RIO is a great place and relaxing to enjoy a great dinner and drinks.
I agree with not booking anything until you get there. If you booked thru expedia or similar there will be a rep in the hotel during each day who are great at lining up the trips and make all the phone calls for you and give you the tickets and receipts on the spot. I have not heard of anybody not getting to do what they want even if it is at the last minute. The hotel also has a on-staff desk that can do the same. I have been doing excursions 4-5 days out of 7 there and have had no problems. I have not heard any great reviews of swimming with the dolphins. I was at the cancun interactive aquarium and they have what looked to be a very nice operation there. I fed the sharks from a plastic cage and that was great. I watched the dolphins and it looked good. Very convenient too, within a mall right in the hotel zone. I have seen some of the operations on the isle of muerres and it looks more like a dolphin cage to me. I think if you give the hotel booking people some trust you wont be dissapointed. I am always amazed at the coordination in getting picked up and getting rides back. They always are within 5 minutes and know your name when they get there, at least from my experience. 4x week long trips.:fish:
Try La Habichuela in downtown Cancun (not the party zone) for your Friday night lloonngg dinner. I am pretty sure the bartenders get a cut for sending you there, so I would ask them about it. Not too pricey, and very good. Very authentic and romantic. Very easy taxi ride to and from. The Asian and Italian are both very good, and Mr Jackson can usually get you a table. We have had mixed results with the Seafood, and usually a good choice for the day of arrival. We did eat at the Rio on our last trip and it was excellent. About a two minute walk to and from. We were there around 7:30, and were the only people in the restaurant. Such a quick evening that it seemed like we missed out on something.
I agree with all the previous posts. i have been to cancun 20+ times and to TTR 14. i have done all the tourist stuff, but a friend that is going with in october with wants to do a few things. i told her to wait until we get there because the small amount you pay more (if any) is a lot less than the total of a excursion that you forfeit due to hangover :ernaehrung005:, bad stomach, :wuerg011: or the infamous " i dont want to leave the pool due to feel like i might miss something" syndrom :flash: oh , and about dinner the night you arrive.... 1) try the specialty restaurants 2) walk through the buffet to see if you see anything u might like. you might be surprised 3) try the texmex 4) across the street is the Rio. brazilian resturant. but be very very hungry and (dont fill up on the appetizers and pasta) have a great vacation 5) our personal favorite is we always go to Sr Froggs for dinner the first night. frank
It's settled then, no booking anything, did not even book transport, there has to be taxis like at any other airport... Now the part I dont like, packing, did you? yes, did you? maybe....
Yep there's "taxis" at the airport, not real ones though, but it does say "taxi" on the side of the car - so if that's what counts then go ahead: http://www.cancuncare.com/forum/cancun-info/20270-do-we-really-private-transport-resort.html Booking your tours online in advance is by far the cheapest way of doing things. You'll get the best price and most flexible cancellation policy, plus someone to complain to if things go wrong.
That is alot of planning. You may want to wing a few days when you find out how much fun it is just to hang out at the resort. You just may be too drunk to make half of the plans. Yes you can book it all there too. We have only done a trip to the island, the pirate ship for dinner and dance and Steve's booze cruises. The Rio Steakhouse across the street is awsome and a great experience. Carlos n Charlies is a fun place to go eat and dance too.
