Lots of you are creative and intelligent on here so I wish to pick your brains.

My youngest is in a tennis team in Cancun - 16 kids in the team. Most of them are working hard to gain scholarships into university using their tennis skills. Getting scholarships are hard as the kids need to obtain high rankings within Mexico. To achive this they have to compete in as many tournaments as possible throughout Mexico and thats the difficult bit. Attending tournaments is 1. time consuming and 2. Very expensive.
As parents we do as much as we can but every tournament costs in the region of 5000 pesos per child - thats if we can drive to it. Last month we drove 12 hours each way to Villahermosa with 8 of the kids . Sitting in cars is not the best way to prepare for any sporting event.

The teams coaches have asked all the parents to come up with one idea for attracting local sponsorship to cover some of the costs. every little helps).

So thats what I am asking for - just ideas. WE have contacted bus companies to see if they can help with getting transport, we have also contacted magazines and newspapers to interview the team members to get publicity.

any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Tracey
ps my kid is only 9 so way off worrying about college scholarships at this point of his life

Check out who sponsors the local football, basketball, american football teams. Also look who advertises heavily on billboards, newspapers etc. These are obviously people who have advertising budgets and approach them with a view to displaying their logo on the kit.

Have the kids do typical fund raising events such as car washes etc.

Hold a fund raising night, get raffle prizes donated, charge an entry fee etc.

Talk to people involved with the womens club or local charities and replicate their ideas with your own twist.

Ok, a couple years back before the netbook, i had a school trip to GDL & to lower the cost of the whole trip we decided to raffle a laptop worth 7500 pesos & an ipod. We ordered 1000 numbered tickets that cost us 450 pesos (single color ink, one fouth of a page roughly), each ticket was worth 50 pesos so selling all of them would get us 50,000 minus rougly 10,000. We still made a lot of money.

The nice thing about this idea is the low cost of it since you only need the invest the money for the tickets & you can purchase the laptop after a raise enough from the initial sales. We planned two winning dates, first one in two months (ipod) & the other one 3 days later after the first (Laptop). We sold out in a month & a half & now days you can get a netbook even cheaper & make more of a profit.

On the tickets i recommend using the winning numbers from the loteria nacional (last 2 or 3 digits,so it has to be 100 or 1000) helps create credibility since anyone can check it.
