I recently got an Iphone. Love it, but not sure what is going to happen with data charges in Mexico. I have international calling and texting set up, won't do much of either since I plan to be disconnected for a few days. Does anyone know what setting I need to make it so that I don't have data roaming charges while there?
? We just got back from Temptation. We have Verizon (DROID2) and when we turned our phone on after landing it asked if we had a "data plan". We said, no we didn't want to be using the internet down there. If we powered our phone off at anytime, the same message came up everytime we powered back on. We have international calling turned on and we also got texts. Not sure if Iphone is same but guessing similar.
I have an iphone as well and what I have done in the past when traveling out of the country is leave the phone in "airplane mode." This keeps the phone from roaming but you can still use features such as the camera and video. Hope this helps! -Candice
Your I-phone should not use any International Data if you have that function turned off with ATT. I use my phone for data at TTR and it will only work when I am logged into the wifi. The normal message I get is something like "Your phone will not connect as you have International Data turned off". I have never had a data charge while at TTR. We are Premier members and get the wifi for free. Another poster said that they paid for the wifi for one day and ended up using it for several.
Thanks for the help guys, I found the setting to make sure i don't get international data roaming charges. See, this place is a wealth of knowledge..now if we could just figure out how to pay for being there more often.....;-)
By default iphones should have the data roaming turned off so you can't accidentally get dinged for international data usage. This should be the case for any iphone on any network. you can check this by clicking on settings > general > network This way you can still use your phone as a phone if you like, just no email or internet.
Tom and I both got Droid 2's for Christmas (switched from ATT to Verizon). Did you have to call and turn on international calling? Were international texts extra? Thanks
i have verizon....i asked last year and think its like .05 to receive text and .15 to send??? and a flat rate of .99 to call roaming.. think this is what i remembered
you can also pay $5 to have Mexico added to your date plan for a month. you will still pay per text, but not pay crazy roaming charges.
