    Steve,
It seems that the I-Phone is getting more and more popular (at least here in the U.S.). Is it feasible to consider a CancunCare I-Phone app?

Hmm, I dont know much about it. I dont even use a regular cellphone right now.

What would an Iphone application do, and how would it help?

I could get it outsourced if it would be a benefit.

Not sure what an app would do that you cant already just do from your browser...

can't really think how it would help, unless you can't already access this site and functionality through it or other smart phones?

i'm not that clued on on i-phones, can you access any site you want through the browser or is it limited?

First off let me state that I'm not a techie. I thought that same as you people until I got an I-Phone. My teenagers have had them for awhile and kept telling me how great they were. I didn't believe until I got one about two months ago. BTW, we are on AT&T as a cell carrier and our local office told us that AT&T is requiring that everybody that upgrades to a smart phone MUST get a data plan. The data plan is unlimited internet and text messages.

Can I access CC from the I-Phone without an app? Yes, but is not very user-friendly in that small of a platform.

I think that we (at least here in the U.S.) are moving to a remote data usage (for lack of a better term). I-Phones access the internet via either wireless internet (if available) or through cell towers.

There are hundreds of apps available. Some are free, some are not. I think that it might be something to look into.

Sorry about the short response, but work is calling.

I understand how the iPhones work, and the apps - what I dont understand is how you're going to make an app for an online forum that will make it any more user friendly than it is through the browser. Maybe you're considering something that I'm missing? If you could elaborate, that would help!

It's kinda hard to explain. Most of the major news providers and networking sites (ie. Facebook, Myspace, etc) have apps even though they have fully functioning websites. It makes accessing and using their website easier from an I-Phone.

I waited for awhile to respond because I was hoping that other I-Phone users would chime in and help explain it better.

I'm still not really getting it either. In my mind an app was like a gadget e.g. a live currency exchange or weather feed or maybe a gimmicky thing like the one that is a glass of beer that empties when you tilt the phone.

The forum is set to fluid width, so that means it will fill your screen width wise whether you use a 24 inch monitor or a tiny cellphone. On a smaller screen the forum would be long and narrow, on a big screen short and fat. There are ways to make websites that are more readable on a cellphone, but then they would look silly on a regular monitor. What you can do is use some fancy redirect that detects cellphones and automatically sends them off to a specially optimised version of the site, but as far as I know there's no way to optimise this particular software for cellphones, any more than it is already.

I get what you mean - I use smartphones as well (blackberry storm) which is quite similar to the iPhone in regards to apps & such. I use the facebook app, I use a weather app, I have apps for sports scores & updates. I just really dont see how an app would improve mobile use for a forum. All the forum consists of is text. There really isnt much to it. I'm not trying to shoot your idea down, or be an asshole or anything along those lines - I just dont see a practical way to create an app for a forum...

It would be nice if there were a mobile web version of the CancunCare website... here are a few examples of what it looks like on an iphone right now.

now imagine trying to read that on a 2" x 3" screen (give or take) the above are screen captures from my iphone.

And this is from the foxnews mobile site...

As you can see the mobile version is easier to use on a mobile phone because of font sizes etc. whether it's worth it to you Steve to have someone code a mobile site that phones will go to when they enter cancuncare.com is another matter entirely.

I think that should handle my nerd fix for the day!
