I finally arrived, safe and sound, on Sunday night. No problem at all, nowhere, but a very very long drive. I spent 2 nights in New-Orleans, I loved it, although it was heavily raining. But I spent a great evening listening to an excellent jazz band. Then a small Cajun restaurant and back packing and loading for an early departure. Good idea... there was no power at 6 am. Those people have not learned their lesson: no generator, not even a flashlight (fortunately I had mine ), after Katrina :icon_eek:, and it was a very nice -and expensive- hotel! After an endless 12 or 13 hour-trip, I finally am in Tampa :aktion033:. I have already found an apartment, a furnished, equipped one-bedroom apartment in a gated community. Moving in on Friday :daveandmo:. I must say that since I have started the process, everything went very smoothly. I have been delayed only in Mexico. I hope the rest will come with an happy end.
Thanks, Jim, but for me no time to rest, well.... just a bit. And I will enjoy for sure!!! Six months is a short time, and if I don't have my visa, they will kick me back to Cancun . I already have an important meeting on Wednesday night . Probably an appointment with my lawyer before. Just time to move in and get a better face (looking like a zombie wouldn't be in my favor )
OMG. Are you saying that New Orleans has great jazz and Cajun restaurants. If they had Creole too and in the French Quarter they had places with steaming hot red beans and rice with andouille sausage, served with plastic spoons in s 1 qt styrofoam cup. Well, I would be right there. Next you will spouting stuff like Tampa has great Cuban restaurants, like the Columbia at 7th Ave and 21st Street. Maybe even say you can get hand rolled cigars by real Cubans who are 80 years old and maybe some silliness about Cuban Sandwichs, Spanish Bean Soup, and more. Good luck,
Tampa and that side are nice--good luck with the visa! I will check to see if that stuff is there in Nawlins, TJ and let you know. Will be there next month.
Hi The Columbia is the best! Better than Vivians on Isla Mujeres. And Crabby Bill's oysters on the half! Jimmy
@TJ - next time you're in Tampa TJ go to La Teresita on W. Columbus - if I remember correctly its open 24 hours - its always busy, one of those fast friendly places with great food, where all walks of life go to eat. If you haven't been I think you'll like it.
Jim - hope you knew that I was being silly. Of course they have it all in "Nawlins". Been there done that. Remember that it is a city where "the girls are girls, and so are the boys" Have not done that though. Mat - Never been there but I know where it is. I will be there in May for one night and will give it a try if I can drag my buddy away from the card room at Hard Rock Casino.
Hi, jenleib, Welcome to Tampa! Happy to hear you arrived safely. I made the trip a few years ago and must say it was an experience of a lifetime, although I don't think it's one I'd want to repeat. Hope all goes well with obtaining your visa.
