Hi All, I want to say thanks first for this great forum. Looks like it's going to have a lot of good information for me. My Wife and I are thinking of visiting Temptation at the end of April/early May. I'm trying to get some information about the resort first to be able to fully sell her on the idea. She's a big beach person (I'm more into the pool) and I've found conflicting reports on the beach. To give some insight....99% of her experience with beaches would be Nag's Head down in North Carolina, which is hardly a "great" beach or water by any stretch. The only time she's really had much experience outside of that has been when we visited Punta Cana for our Honeymoon. So for those that have been to some of the east coast US beaches, how would Temptation's beach and water compare? And how does it compare in general to Caribbean beaches/water? Is the water relatively clear? Lots of debris on the beach or mostly sand? Thanks a ton and I'm looking forward to checking out the various tips and info about the resort prior to visiting.
I wouldn't go to TTR for the beach. It's dissapointing at best. If she wants to lay out and that sort of thing she'll do fine but there isn't any surf to speak of and usually there is a fair bit of seaweed. I wouldn't exactly say I would swim there either. With that being said if you do come to TTR you won't want to spend much time there anyway when are having so much fun at the pools. Hope you can make it.
I agree totally. The "Strip" hotels of Cancun have incredible wide, long beaches and beautiful surf. Such a shame we don't have that at TTR, but then again, if we did, you'd have to book a year in advance to get a room. I play beach volleyball all day, and the sand at the court is nice, but I tried only once to take a walk down the beach and could not walk longer than 10 minutes before hitting a dead end when I would have to put on my shoes to walk on pavement and over a big overpass with traffic to resume walking the beach. The "Me" hotel by Melia is a new adults-only on the strip that is supposed to be nice (quite a bit more expensive than TTR), but I read a couple of Trip Advisor reviews that said that it is not a party hotel. Not much happening there.
The beach area right behind coco bongo is awesome and never seen much of a crowd there. Short $10 cab ride to a beautiful public beach. If you like the TTR theme don't cancel because of the beach. It is so much more than a beach resort and it has great beaches close by.
The bus to get to the beach behind Coco Bongo is only $1 and it will take about 10 minutes to get there. It is a beautiful beach with blue/green water, white sand and big waves! The busses in Cancun are nicer than any public bus I've been on in the US - and they run all the time, very easy to get around. The TTR beach is nice to look at when they clean up the seaweed, but there are no waves. The only thing I would mention about the public beach behind Coco Bongo, which really isn't any different than any other public place you go to in Cancun - just be prepared to have multiple vendors constantly ask you if you want to buy something. At that beach, we kept being asked if we wanted a beer (it is like I wanted to make a sign to hold up saying "NO, and go the FUCK away!!"). They have tables with umbrellas there, but you can't sit there unless you buy a beer from the vendor. Who cares about that - bring a towel and sit on the beach! Here is a picture I took from there in January
Here is a picture of the TTR beach, taken from our 2nd floor balcony early in the morning when they had cleaned up the seaweed. It is beautiful, but no waves - and when the water color gets darker, that is all seaweed on the sand under the water. And then if they don't clean the seaweed up, the beach looks like this: When we were there in Oct. during a major storm, the beach was covered in seaweed and it was really gross, but that is out of the norm - early in the morning the staff go out and rake the beach and clean it up fairly well.
If beaches are your thing, we could name you a dozen better hotels to stay at. Any hotel on the north side of the 7 is not going to have as good of beach as somewhere on the east side of the 7, and the more south, the better.
I love the beach, and was worried about the state of the beach at TTR, but it was actually ok for what I needed. There's plenty of comfortable chairs to sit on, and the sand is still lovely and white. True, there's no waves and a bit of seaweed about, but up to waist height it is still crystal clear water, and when you consider the value you get from TTR in every other aspect, it's still worth it. We took a ferry from Puerto Juarez over to Isla Mujeres and went swimming/snorkelling at the beach over there for a day which was all I really wanted. Spent 2 or 3 other days on the beach at Temptation, and then the rest by the pool.
Is there a beach and ocean at TTR???? Kidding! But seriously we have been there for 8 years and can seem to pull our selves away from the pool or room long enough to hit the beach. Is nothing to be desired about tho. We went a few times just to clean the nipple piercings we got years ago.
It's all about your perspective. The beach at Temptation is at least as nice as the beaches in North Carolina (in my opinion). The water is much clearer, but you can only go out to chest (or waist) height before the ground turns into complete sea weed. There are also no waves (most women prefer no waves). The other side of cancun has much nicer beaches than TTR. I'm sure you can sell your wife on the idea that the beaches are comparable to North Carolina, but you should try to venture to the nicer public beach if you do go.
