I'm not even a first-timer, but I've been playing with the idea of coming to check out TTR with my husband sometime. We're not LS, but I've read the forums and I know that's not a dealbreaker or anything. My question is more because I'm a socially awkward introvert, honestly. I see a lot of comments talking about how you should "find your group" or make friends and then the stay gets way better, but I've never been great at that; my husband is significantly worse. Can anyone just walk me through how that sort of thing goes?
Just hang out by the swim up bar. 5 people an hrs (min) will say hi to you and strike up a conversation.
I agree the stay is a lot more fun with a group to hang with so here is the long answer. Have a couple of drinks to relax, maybe a shot and then a drink, Don’t get hammered just a little buzz. After that hang out where there’s some traffic, like near the swim up bar or one of the fun holes at the far end of the pool. When someone looks at you smile and say hi. After that just be friendly. Most people are a little shy and awkward, a smile and a friendly hello is welcome by everyone and will usually be returned, and 2 out of five will stop and chat for a few minutes. Next time you see them repeat, now you have a friend and they have a couple of friends and now you’re hanging out with some really cool people with some very interesting stories. If that doesn’t work look for a few couples that have already formed a group and just walk over and say “I am a socially awkward introvert and this is my husband who is significantly worse, you guys look fun do you mind if we hang out?”. I promise that will get some laughs. And who doesn’t like to laugh?
Agree 100% with all the above. Also, add a pic or some pics on here (they don’t have to be revealing or anything if you’re worried about it being a public-ish site). It helps put the faces with the name when folks see you at the resort. Steve is also good enough to moderate a Facebook group called Temptation Cancun Community. It’s a great way to interact and meets at least a couple or two before you go. We didn’t know a soul who was there our first trip but met a few couples via FB and that made it way easier when we saw them at the pool (full disclosure I will talk to and make friends with a lamppost so definitely not an introvert but still…). Relax, be friendly and you’ll find your crew in no time.
It's actually called "Temptation Cancun Fans Community" and I agree, it's a great group! Log into Facebook
