Hi all, I wanted to comment, this site is really helpful. I've enjoyed reading alot of the threads and am finding alot of useful info here. I am coming down to Cancun the 1st of Sept. I have already found a furnished apartment that I hope will still be available when I arrive. I am curious if there are any IT jobs available for Expats. In particular, infrastructure. I have several years experience with fiber optics and various installation methods. I also several years experience with Wi-Fi systems. I have setup many internet/Wi-Fi systems across Iraq and Afghanistan and even some parts of Africa. I used to own a small retail computer shop in the states back in the 90's up to '05. I hold a current low voltage contractors license in the state I currently live in, which I know means nothing there. I am also very knowledgeable of fire and burg systems, CCTV(analog and IP based), home automation, audio and video distribution systems. Are there any needs and positions for Expats for any of these types of systems or technologies?
Most hotels now offer wifi for their guests which obviously involves the setting up of infrastructure. There does seem to be a general trend of offering better and faster, so I guess there are opportunities. I'm not sure how open those opportunities might be to a new expat business though. Experience and ability might not count for much versus established friend of friends type deals even though their skills might not be the best. Like many things it's probably a hard market to break into - but once you are in, you are in.
