How Boobs Cruises are Scheduled - May 2011 in Particular

OK… for those trying to figure out how to get a Boobs Cruise on the docket, here’s how it works…. (DISCLAIMER: This is how I think Steve does it, he's never sat me down and explained his process to me, but if it were me doing this....)

First you have to work with a couple of assumptions.

1) Those coming or leaving on the day of the cruise will probably not be able to attend. Sure there are exceptions here and there with people arriving really early in the day or leaving very late, but as a general rule they don’t.
2) Most people will only go on one cruise per visit. Again there are exceptions, but…
3) For round numbers only about half the possible people on the list will actually go. They are a lot of fun, but not everyone is into them for whatever reason. Sometimes people won’t sign up in advance because they aren’t sure of other things going on and don’t want to commit when they don’t know for sure. Like me for example. We have lots of local friends there and depending on their availability we get together. So I don’t commit to things I don’t know I can attend. If it turns out at the time of the event I can attend then I can join then if I want to. So although people may talk about doing stuff, they are sometimes reluctant to sign up.
So…

Next you take the roll call numbers and do the calculations. You will see below that you have the day and a calculation. That calculation is number of people sleeping in the hotel that night minus the number of people coming and going that day (ie. not available to join) equaling the number of possible people that can go. Now you have to build a spreadsheet with all the names and numbers of people in the party because remember you want to exclude people that are there for the first Boobs Cruise because if they go on that one, they probably won’t go on the second one. Yes people might choose the second one over the first but you have to draw the line somewhere. So now you have the possible people, you have to divide that by half and that is your target number. It has to first be over 25, second it shouldn’t include folks that were available to go on a previous cruise. Yeah.. this gets complicated. Now you know why Steve has grey hair. So anyway, you start with a list like this:

From that list you can see that either May 4th or 5th look really good in that you have a pool of over 50 that would more than likely sign up. So either day would work and the crowd is looking at the 4th so Steve will probably put one out then.

Now you have to slide down the spread sheet to get past those folks on the 4th so you get them out of the total numbers of people available but still have over 50 people eligible. I built the spreadsheet and can tell you that the next good possibility is the 17th – 19th . Now the number here are pretty close but in looking over the posts it seems that more people that are there on the 18th have expressed a Desire to go then on the 19th. So I could see Steve booking the second one on the 18th but shift either way a day if the numbers warrant. Meaning if he gets 23 on the 18th but could get 27 if he moved it to the 19th.. well you get the picture.

OK, the numbers currently say the next best shot is the 23rd. There is a big turnover of people between the 18th and the 23rd that makes the numbers work.

Now you can see that everyday there are enough people to fill the minimum of 25 if EVERYBODY that is there GOES. Not likely but…. If everybody wanted to go and got together and went to Steve and said Hey! I’m sure he would look at it… unless of course that those folks were also in the counting of another day and if they went on the new day instead and existing schedule cruise would fall apart.

So if you are still reading this you know the fun Steve has planning dates for the cruises and why he waits to get the maximum input to the roll calls to work with and why he doesn’t sail one everyday.

For May I would look for him to plan one on the 4th, 18th, and 23rd and see what sails.
