Just read that Phil Rizzuto died today. He truly was a Yankee great both on the field and in the booth. I remember watching games on Channel 11 when I was a kid that he announced. Half of the time he was just rambling on about some sort of vaguely baseball related topic and paying a bare minimum of attention to the game. To me, it made it feel like I was watching the game with an uncle or something. Real relaxed, lots of fun and about baseball when it needed to be.

The Scooter is in my thoughts and prayers tonight.

I heard that on the radio today.

Growing up in NY, he was a definite fixture there in the sports world. He will definitely be missed.

Thoughts and prayers to his family.

89 actually. he would have been 90 later this year.

I was actually at the game tonite. the tributes were awsome. they had one before the game statrted that was really good. It just sucks that they lost the way they did. I was hoping they would pull off a win for the scooter.

The owner of the Yanks was quoted as saying.. " Heaven must have needed another short stop!" I like that!! He will be missed.

I figured out the age thing later. Just saw the 1917-2007 and assumed.

I watched the footage they showed on YES of the pre-game stuff and it looked really touching. Sucks that they had to lose the way they did last night too.
