Hello, I'm looking for good fabric stores in Cancun specifically to make clothing not interior design fabric. Also, would love to see art work of local artists. Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much, Robin [IMG]

There is a fabric store in the same lot as the main Burger King in central downtown at the intersection of Ave Yaxchillan and Ave Xcaret

This store is called Asis. The one Steve describes would be on the R-2 bus route and you would get off after the 4th light after km 0 and it's across the main street. The 3rd light is a crosswalk in front of a hospital and after Chedraui. The 4th light is as the street is curving left and back to the right.

They have a much larger store on the R-1 bus line that is a bit past the ADO bus station, at the far right corner of Av Tulum and Av Chichen Itza.

More specifically, the R-1 makes a right on Tulum at the 2nd light after km 0. It passes the Municipal Palace the a traffic circle where it will stop almost in front of McDonalds. Almost in sight but for the trees, the next light is Chichen Itza. The same R-1 buses go back to the HZ but from almost across the street.

There is really no go to place that I could suggest for local artwork. There are a couple of galleries but the prices are a joke and not representative of local artists. You can sometimes find them weekend nights at Parque Las Palapas where there is usually something going on.

If you can't find art you can for sure find Elote (corn on the cob on a stick), Esquite (corn kernals in a stro cup, with limon, cheese, mayo and chili pepper) and Marquisitas (those rolled up sweet treats that start out looking like crepes but end up crispy. Filled with a gouda type of cheese, or Philly Cream cheese, nutella, like chocolate, cajeta, like caramel and another filling or two)

Lots of locals and if you have young kids they can ride around on those battery powered cars for about $2 for 10 minutes.
