Helo, please for 1st timeTTR

Thanks in advance, to however takes there time to read this thread!!! Is our first time to TTR and Cancun, we have read a lot of threads and suggestions out there, but must of them are old or other Hotels. Please help us with this question, for sure this will help other TTR newbies as well, because a lot of the info we found is old. We will be visiting TTR from June 25th to July 3rd,

1) What will be the best and most affordable way to call the US from TTR??? Is there a pay phone in the Hotel or near to???? I only need to call back home for about five minutes per day, just to check on the kids and make sure everything is OK. I usually get around just with WIFi in other places (usually free) and use Skype, hotel price for WiFi I read is about $15 per day x8=$120. What are mi options ??? We thought getting a calling card would be our best option, but is there any pay phones close by, I read somewhere there is free wifi close to TTR, We also read there is a store close to the resort where we can purchase calling cards???

2) We are planning either a trip to Xel Ha, Xcaret or Chichen Itza being our top choice (Chichen, Ek Balam and a Cenote with a stop on Villaloid). We were thinking of renting a car and driving ourselves, we are also open to doing a tour, we even thought we might meet others couples wanting to visit this places and probably do it together ( that sounded funny and fun) anybody done this type of trip, any suggestions please due so. We were thinking of doing it on Monday, should be slower at Chichen. Suggestions, experience, ideas????

3) We have read a lot of different room suggestions and are more confused than ever with room selection, I think the best way is to kind of explain what we are looking for and hope somebody can suggest. We wanted a room not to far from everything that going on, but quiet enough so that we can sleep to recover from all the drinking, dancing and more much more.... We wanted to have a nice view, or good to be viewed ( if you all now what I men, "we love to spend time in the balcony" plus I smoke, Jajaja LOL) We have read that rooms by the quiet pool are good, but must of the recommendations are jacuzzi , we have a deluxe standard room booked.

 

You can use computers in the lobby for skype for $5 for 30 minutes... Or you can get the WiFi for like $12-$15 a day I think it is... Or you can get a calling card, and there are pay phones at the resort...

Do a tour... Driving in Cancun can be very scary at times lol.

Get an ocean view room. You'll most likely end up with a nice balcony for relaxing, or for "viewing"... And the rooms in the 5000 block or the 1000 block are both quiet... The resort isn't big enough that you will really be "far" from the action though... So don't worry.

 

Is the wifi good , or are we going to spend 30 mins trying to get connected through Skype? Being from the Caribbean we are kind of use to the aggressive driving, we have heard the road to Chichen Itza is very safe 4 lane road, Or isn't? Thanks for your reply, have some options to consider!!!

 

On past trips to Mexico, when we knew we need to make/receive calls we added the international calling plan to our cell phone, then cancelled it when we got back. I don't remember the costs, but it was not bad at all.

Wifi is really expensive you can maybe buy with your cell phone provider a package for the week you'll bethere I know I can when i'm going to us!

Isla mujeres is a must to see at least one time! Tulum is very very far from where the hotel is! Add 30 min from the airport to the hotel! Do the register online on the website of Temptation take few minutes at home and save you fews minute at the resort!

There's some theme night, really nice! Only place I was is by the sexy pool, the people working at the quiet pool don't like to help people lol so don't go see them and ask them for 10 mango tango they will not provide you a tray since we drink all the

Asian, tex mex and seafood are really reallygood! You can trust me i have the most boyfriend pickie in this world!
Coco bongo its a must at least for the show not to be push around!
The pirate ship is really nice too but always the same show so a one time
Only! You have choice of lobster, steak or both of them! Catamaran is ok if you're not seasick but we want to do the Boobs Cruise next time!!

Margaritaville was good two years ago didn't went this year!

Taxi are really cheap just need negociation!! 6$ from town to the oasis palm beach 2 years ago for 6 people on the cab!! Don't buy any timeshare for anyone even on the resort!! When you will go there the first time they want to visit wrh you all the resort and propose to buy some stuff don't waste you're day with them! Visited it buy yourself isn't enought big and everyone will be happy to gove you direction and they have board everwhere!

Pat'y'o is where the party are ( center of
Hotel ) so you will not want to go in town to miss that party everyone is really
Friendly You will make friend quick!!

The swinger are all together so don't worry about it! Seriously i'll neer be part of swinger i don't care about them but i'll not like it if my bf have sex with another women and same thing for me! And take care of you man you will see love and sex are everywhere so you will make love alot of time you will talk about that hotel for the rest of your life!!

Don't forget that nobody know you and nobody gives a sh&t!!

Oh and bring a big big HUGE plastic glass with a top and a straw so you're drink will not be empty the two minutes after you start it

Sprint is expensive as hell!!!! I thought of the idea of buying a telecel amigo SIM card, but it comes close to $65, to much for five minutes a day!!!

 

Just got back from a one week stay in Cancun. Called Verizon before I left and they put me on an international plan for Mexico. Cost is about a dollar per minute. When you arrive home, you simply put in a code to get off the international plan and back to your normal plan. Pretty easy and not too expensive as long as you do not hang on the phone!

 

Yeah, that's what we did, just add int'l package to our ATT plan.

There is a pay phone on the resort (I think it's close to the sports bar with pool tables). I don't know if it would be cheaper to add international to your phone or get a calling card. We always use our cell phone for convenience reasons, but it might be a little cheaper to get a calling card. Don't use the phone in the room that's for sure!

I would be very wary of driving around in Cancun. A few years ago I read about shady police pulling over people for random reasons to look for some bribes. I have no idea if this still goes on, but it would scare the crap out of me. Might as well pay a few bucks more and be safe.

They will put you in whatever room they have available. If you don't like it then ask to be moved. I have found that you could ask 5 different people what room they prefer and you might get 3 different answers. Most people would say 3000 block, but this is for timeshare people only. The resort is small, so no worries about being far from anything.
