Has anybody been to Barbados or St. Martin before. Tryin to find a place to go for my hooneymoon. We've been to Aruba and cancun before. Any info. would be great.
I've been to Barbados....spent an entire summer there at their law school. I fell in love with the place as did all of my classmates. It's NOT a hugely popular spot for Americans....mostly Canadians & English. So there was a more laid back vibe to the place. No stuffyness at all. The Bajan people were truly fantastic. They understand that tourism is the backbone of things and they go waaayyyyy overboard in catering to those from other countries. Just as an example.....anytime we wanted to go into town to go to dinner or a club, we would go to the hearest bus stop and not only would the busses stop there, but regular citizens would too. They didn't want you to have to wait for a bus, they offered you a ride to wherever you were going. To them, it was an insult if you refused a ride. The island was small in a sense, but large enough to have lots to keep you busy sightseeing. If you can go during "Crop Over" it's one HUGE festival in the streets, all over the island. I can't really think of a bad thing to say about the place really.... Michelle
Barbados is fantastic. For the US citizen at the moment, it's not an inexpensive vacation. St. Lucia is also beautiful, and slightly less expensive (I emphasize slightly).
St Martin! I love that place! Been twice. What is nice there is that you can rent a jeep, and go round the island. Lots and lots of beaches. French and Dutch side. Both are very different, but nice in their own way. You can also catch a ferry to St Barths from there. I thought it was rather inexpensive as well...say, in Orient Bay (a nice beach), you can rent a lounge chair for the whole day for about 5$, and they give you a free drink too.
thanks Thank you for the help. It looks like we are going to go to St. Martin. On there web site it seems there is alot to do if you want to.
Phew! I just got an email from my old boss, I emailed him to get his suggestion since he's been to both St. Martin & Barbados (he retired 4 years ago)....he suggested St. Martin for a Honeymoon. Congrats on the wedding & have fun on the Honeymoon!!! Please give us a trip report when you get back...with pictures too...if you can. Michelle
sure will I will get a T.R. up when we get back . Thanks for the help. It looks as if St. Martin is were we are headed. I love the feeling you get leading up to a vacation. Wish you could bottle it and sell it. What a killin you would make.
