I do believe the appropriate term these days is "stylist" - HELP!! Can anyone recommend a good stylist, who can cut and add hi-lites?? I'm in desperate need!! Hehehe...Seriously.
I know D is super busy these days and not sure if she's still cutting hair. But honestly...lol...my suggestion would to be grow it if it's at all possible. After several disasters I decided to grow it out and only get it cut when I visited back home. Good luck. Sometimes people finally find someone that does a good job for them, but not for their friends...so recommendations aren't always good either. You don't need special training or a certificate to cut hair in Mexico....so be careful! They do things "differently". Suerte.
I've been going to el cheapo places for years but recently bit the bullet and paid the extra dough for Joss Claude. I was very happy with the results. I met a stylist named Michel (male), a Frenchman who has lived in the states for a long time. His last job was in Miami. He speaks English and certainly knows his stuff. http://www.jossclaude.com/
There are 2 or 3 places across from the middle of Plaza 2000, on the street that runs one way back toward Tulum. The stylists are transgender, transexual, gender challenged or whatever the PC term is, but they sure know how to fix themselves up and others as well. It's worth a trip just to walk by the salons and see them in action.
I use a small shop on avenida Nader just next to Cafe de la Nader. Great cut and great highlights and a great price too.
I had great luck at Walmart's salon. I watch the stylists work a bit and told the desk I wanted one of two stylist. And it was the best cut I'd had in years! 110 pesos.
There are only two people who have cut my hair properly in the last 20 years. Deana is one of them. But I know she's too busy for anyone's hair but her own. The other is my pal Dave...but he's in Colorado. Lots of friends are happy at Place Jadelle: http://www.placejadelle.net/ Jacques, the owner, is very good according to all reports.
