When I arrived I was shocked at the crap quality of the gyms and the crazy prices they would charge. Since then there has been a lot of new gyms open and prices have come down a bit. Here are a list of a few of the current ones if anyone is interested. Energy Fitness Las americas - 1200 pesos a month (pool/gym/classes/batting cage) Go Fitness Plaza Peninsula - 850 a month Classes and gym Sport Dreams 800 a month (500 if you pay for a year) gym/classes Nova Sport - 1400 for 2, Olympic pool, gym, classes, gardens, tennis etc. My Spare bedroom - weight bench, adjustable dumbbells, a dog with lots of energy that needs a run - free Good to see a bit of competition though forcing prices down!
I can recommend the outdoor gym station they put in the HZ entrance. 3 times/week I do my 9K run and after that, I do just 15-20 mis at that place. Not bad, considering its free. People where nice enough and there was no issue in taking turns at the various machines. I go around 7AM, and its nice and fairly fresh(air).
Thanks for putting the list together matkirk. I was actually surprised how expensive gym memberships are here, hell some rival upscale Beverly Hills monthly dues. I am going by City Gym next to Las Americas tomorrow, anyone have any experience? I know it's expensive, but hear its worth it.
SA, you probably mean Sports City. It seems to be the "trendy", place to be seen gym in town. Different price plans, none of which are cheap. Good luck.
I have a friend whom had a free membership to Sports City and stop going cause the women were more interested in the gossip and hanging around, and the men gawked too much at the women. It's more of a social gathering that has great equipment, at a ridiculous price. Even FREE couldn't keep her going.
