:sunny:We are staying at the Royal Mayan in January. Are there grocery stores near by within walking distance to get breakfast stuff, snacks, beer, etc.? Thanks, Dawg

I found a post on trip advisor and it said "There is a OXXO right on the main road open 24 hrs (like a 7-11). " That sounds good to me. Any other info would still be helpful. Dawg

Not really sure of the exact area, we don't go out that way often.

But yes there are plenty of OXXO's and also Extra's which are 24 hr convenience stores every mile or so in the hotel zone. They will stock the basics you need.

One of the things we like to do is hop on the bus and ride it to the Walmart on Av Xcaret. They have everything you could possibly need there. Also, it is fun to experience stuff outside the hotel zone. It only costs 8.5 pesos to ride the bus one way. You will most likely save that much by buying what you need at Walmart vs OXXO.

We normally don't bring sunscreen or anything like that with us....we just get it at the Walmart.

    For what it's worth it.......

One other thing about the Walmart run. We have another couple that we almost always travel with, one of them will only drink a certain kind of rum and diet. I know its all inclusive, but that's the way she is.........

Anyway we grab it at the Walmart on our run and it keeps her happy, actually it's only about 20-25 bucks usually....her partner says it's worth the extra bucks to keep her happy!

The Royals have really great stores in each facility. Not too over priced. Actually they have some really cool stuff. But I'm all about doing the local thing and going downtown, you could take a bus there and a taxis back or taxis both ways. Downtown has a lot of cool things to discover. Market 28 is something to check out and market 23 is really cool but it is more for locals. That's where we get our fruits and vegetables. We always make Walmart run on Saturday evening the we are set for the week. Anything else you might need , get it t the store at the Royal Mayan.
We've been at the Royal Islander for 15 years.
    Have fun!

Hmm. Sunscreen here is really deadly, compared to Walmart in the states. Getting it here at Walmart is cheaper than getting it in HZ but still about $5 US more per item than in the states.

Then when you leave half a can or bottle in your room, we can go to the Tianguis and buy it for about $2 US. LOL But it's true. I got one recently that was unopened, (Coppertone Sport, SPF 30) still had the plastic seal on the top, for $40 pesos, a few cents over $3 US.
