I haven't actually followed Canadian football this year. What kind of drama was circulating this season?

What an exciting game it was! Down to the wire, Riders intercepted ball in final minute to secure the win (J Jackson, #19, MVP for cup). Final score 23-19. Yippee!!!

Had a bet with hubby - if Bombers won, I had to wear his Bomber jersey to work today; if Riders won, he had to wear my Riders jersey to the gym today. He wasn't happy to be wearing green today!

Despite Winnipeg having to start the 2nd string quarterback, his first start ever in the CFL, they did okay. It was definitely more of a defensive game, with 5 total interceptions and one resulting in a TD, and six of Wpg's 19 points from touchbacks.

Awesome half-time show, too, with Lenny Kravitz performing three spot-on songs, despite a broken string on his guitar for the last song.

For those of you who do not know what the Grey Cup is -- it is the Canadian Football League's championship, similar to the Super Bowl for the NFL. Cdn football only has three downs, not four, to get a first down. The rules and field size are a little different, but just as exciting to watch.

This year was the 95th Grey Cup, so it is rich in history. This is the Saskatchewan Roughrider's third win -- first in 1966 and most recently in 1989. The Bombers last won in 1990.

There is a strong rivalry between Saskatchewan and the Winnipeg (Manitoba) Blue Bombers. A lot of trash-talk between the two resulted in the now annual "Banjo Bowl", based on the comment made by the Wpg kicker that Sask fans are all hillbillies, plucking their banjos.
