OK .... please know that these are just my observations from my visit and I don't want to offend any of the "Golden Lifers" out there .... LOL

    (1) lighting in room was much worse then I thought ... I heard that it could be an issue, well, it was for me ... I couldn't see to put my makeup on at night, or put in my contacts, etc .... daytime wasn't much better in the bathroom since it didn't see any sunlight. One night I actually went out with blue eye shadow on one eye and purple on the other ... LOL ... I blame the lighting, but it could have been the booze too ... LOL

    (2) Water pressure in shower was just a trickle ... I have hair to my shoulders, and it took FOREVER to rinse the shampoo and condishner out of my hair... not sure if that is hotel-wide, or just my room ... shaving in the shower?? forget it .... the lack of pressure took forever to rinse the razor off each time ... so I resorted to proping my leg up on the bathroom counter to shave by sink, which took some skill since I am short and have short legs, and to me that counter seemed high ... LOL

    (3) I love love love fruity rum and/or vodka drinks, but I actually had a hard time finding a drink that I really liked since the mixers and juice that they used were so sugar filled so the drinks were really really sweet .... good for the 1st couple, but not the type of think that I can keep drinking ... the only thing that saved me was drinking a ton of Momosa's!!! They don't really advertise that they have chamange behind the counter, but trust me! they do! Oh, and if anyone else out there has the same problem, may I suggest the Dirty Monkey's too!!! It seems that you could order the same drink at each of the bars, and each bartenders would make it a totally differnt way that they didn't even taste the same. Some of that may be the language barrier, so I don't hold that against them. Just a note for you newbie folks going down there ... if you don't like a drink from one bar, try the next one, and you might like it ... LOL

    (4) after the inside bars closed, the Tiki bar sometimes gets so crowded that there isn't room to sit and sometimes getting a drink is hard. that can be good or bad, depending on how you look at it. this wasn't a total negative, just an annoyance at times. the tiki bar should actually be much larger, or maybe have anther outside bar open late hours other then the inside 60's bar (which hardly had anyone in it whenever we popped in it).

    (5) all in all we had a good time, and the hotel was really clean and nice. And the staff gets a 200% as they go above and beyond anything that I have ever seen before! Tip them well because they surely work their butts off to serve you and make you have the best time possible.

    (6) Food was overall OK. Some was really good, and some not so good ... it is all a matter of taste. Just wish that the buffet was open for dinner since breakfast and lunch always had yummy options! Here's a tip .... the pool-side Breeze ...... they are open almost 24 hrs a day (close at like 4:00 am I think) ........ they had the BEST burgers and BEST nachos! So, if you go out to dinner, and you don't really like what you had, you can always end up there! We did a couple of times ... LOL ... O, and Sumo is a sweat box! Food is good, so I would recommend going there, just girls .... make sure your hair is up, and everyone where light clothing! And you will freeze your butt off at the Old Barn ... LOL ... funny how that all works ...

    (7) Wish the pool was a little deeper, but it did the trick! It was the perfect height for all of the games, which were a lot of fun! Oh, and the HOT tub was actually quite warm, which is VERY unusual for Cancun from my experience! I enjoyed being in that and having it over looking the ocean! NICE!!! My only complaint about the hot tub is that at night ..... what's up with the lights?!?!?!?!?!?!? LOL ......... the whole idea of going to a hot tub at night is to "hide under the bubbles" .......... which I couldn't really do because of the bright lights .... LOL .... one very drunken night .... I shed my top and opps, here goes the bottoms ..... just having a great time .... and then I noticed I had an audience, and the spot light was right on my bottom!!! HA!!! oh well ..... still was fun.... hee hee

Not sure if we would return to the GP or not ... it depends I think ... I would recommend it to a handful of our friends who I know are partiers, and wouldn't mind the little things, but the vast majority of our friends, I probably wouldn't.

if you have any other questions, please feel free to ask away!)

    Thanks

Thanks Stacey for taking the time to type this up...

1 - Did you have an Oceanview or Lagoon View room....wondering if the lighting matters on 'room type'.... Everyone probably thought you did that blue/purple on purpose :)
2 - Low Water pressure...hmmmm (wife is not going to be happy about that - as she has thick long hair as well)
3 - I asked my wife last night what her drink(s) of poison were going to be this time in Cancun (5th time in 3 years but all different places - 1st to GP)... she said fruity ones - maybe not. Things got interesting last year on Long Island Ice Teas & Vodka/Red Bull. Arent Dirty Monkeys that chocolate/Kahlua tasting drink?
4 - Sounds like the Tiki hut is the happening place (I just hope the music is alright - that is one thing I HATED about Temptations was that darn thump thump thump music) A nice playlist of 70s rock sounds pretty good. Did you go to any of the 'nightclubs' with the entertainment staff?
5 - Staff always makes any place... can easily make a vote from way thumbs down to thumb up or sideways
6 - Did you try the Old Barn and/or Shangri-La?
7 - Hmmm... I am sure you made memories/stories for others... Yeah I never get having 'the Lights on bright' in a hot tub but maybe that was part of the staffs schtick for the reason you just stated.

You can always take an ipod with you and the bartenders will be glad to hook it up for you. I know about that thump thump music, can`t stand it

1-We had the ocean view deluxe room. At that time of night, I think that everyone was too drunk to notice, so all was good!
2-low water pressure ... yeah, not sure if that was hotel wide, or if I was just lucky in my room ... or maybe it was my floor?? I was in room 322
3-yeah, dirty monkey's have real banana blended up with kahlua I think ... it almost tasted like a banana mocha frozen drink ... they were super yummy, and dangerous since you can't taste the alchol ... I had them last time when I stayed at the Riu Cancun ... there was a couple of days that I can't remember from them from that trip ... I actually stayed lucid this trip ... I guess because I didn't nearly drink as much as I normally do since I had a hard time finding something that I could stick with
4-Music at the tiki bar really varies depending on who is there ... believe it or not, I heard a lot of country because of the crowd that was there ... but for the most part, they played a good mix. No, we didn't do the clubs with the entertainment staff .... on the nights that we wanted to go, they were going some place that we didn't want to, but on those nights that we had planned something early the next day, don't you know that is when they were going to the good places ... oh well ....
5-I honestly believe that everyone that keeps coming back to this hotel over and over again is due to the staff that they have ...I give them a A++++
6-Yes to Old Barn .... very cold inside as it seem that is the only place where the AC is pumping. Food was OK. Tip .... however you want your steak to be cooked, order it a level below ... it seemed that they overcooked our steaks. We like medium, but 1st time we ate there, it was overdone. So, our 2nd trip, we ordered medium-rare, and then it came out the perfect medium ... LOL .... Yes to Shangri-La ... not my cup of tea ... I didn't realize that it was French food ... I guess that the name should have given it away, but oh well ... the atmosphere was very nice and a nice change of pace from the other places .... we only did that place once. Since neither of us really like French food, after dinner there, we went directly to the Breeze and had cheese burgers ... LOL

Yeah, it wasn't all that much of a "party" when I was there ... if it had been, I may have liked it more, so you might be totally right that what time of yr you go makes all of the difference in the world. I definitely had fun and met some great people.
