The Gourmet Market in Plaza Caracol, directly above Starbucks, may be a place you want to check out. It's pricey, but the meats, deli items and breads are a cut above what's generally available for us expats pining for a real corned beef sandwich (sorry, RG) and north of the border style roast beef (sorry again). If one of the owners is there, Sasha or Ben, just point and shoot. If they are not there, you'll have to explain that you don't want your meat shaved off, you want slices you can't see through. I understand Sasha has been a fixture in the food business in Cancun for quite some time, so some of you veterans may already know him. They serve in the place, but we haven't tried eating there. We have become regular shoppers though. As I said the sliced meats are very good as is the wide assortment of German and Italian salamis. Having lived in Germany, we can also attest to the genuine taste of their bratwurst, which we used to buy at Michels, but the quality there has slipped. They also have a nice assortment of cheeses, good imported jams, very nice apple strudel and other desserts and a decent wine selection, although the wine store right next to them is also worth looking in.
German Bratwurst and original smoked jam If someone like to taste original homemade German Bratwurst and smoked jam you can call us (we are germans): Cancun 8480492 (only in the evening). German Bratwurst Kilo/70 pesos, sliced smoked jam kg/200 pesos. Free tasting ;-)
I have to agree - we are at this place more often than we should be. Its a real treat to have a great wine with a plate of cheese and meats served by such knowledgeable people. Definately worth a try. Tracey x
