As of yesterday, Google Street View is now available for Cancun. I just cyber-drove down Tulum, Coba and Yaxchilan. Very cool! http://maps.google.com/ If you're not familiar with Street View, drag the little orange man next to the zoom in/out buttons to a street and it gives you a street-level view.
Wow thats great and slightly spooky.I went down our street and there was my daughter walking the dog- and that doesn't happen very often! Tracey
I have to say I'm sorta relieved that they didn't shoot all the way down my street. I saw the Google car shooting our street about a month ago, but it doesn't look like the pix made it. Better I say.
So I'm going to have to find all of the places that I ever lived in Cancun...and I'm not too familiar with street view...is it captured that way indefinitely? So that the random couple I saw making out will be making out on that same corner in a few days?
Yep. The updates are very infrequent, even in the US, so I could only imagine here in Mexico. I'm really surprised it even happened at all. As RG mentioned, they actually physically drive down streets in a van with a specially equipped 360 degree camera. It's kinda nuts they sink so much cash into it. If you google around, you can find lots of crazy things they capture on photo -- like a house burning down
Strange. They didnt go down our street in SM18 nor even the one it leads off, yet they got my Mother in laws house in Region 93.
Thats cool... especially for the criminals who can now see where the nice cars park and what houses are easily accessible, from the comfort of their home without having to walk the streets attracting attention.... I guess technology really does make everyone's life easier.
google Steve, I noticed a few clues on my street that indicated the pics were taken several months ago (but still within the last 6-8 months I believe). RiverGirl says she saw them on her street just about a month ago, however. I guess it's possible that they just haven't made it over to your street. I live in SM-25 so my street was probably one of the first they did in the downtown area. Who knows what the system is?! Regardless, it's a cool feature.
