I just called AT+T Wireless about our options for using our cell phones while in Mexico. The agent told us they just started a new program where we could use our cell phones in Mexico and it would be counted as if we were calling the US. Goes for text messages, too. And 1GB of data for each line. All this would be at no additional charge.

This is a huge upgrade from their previous, lousy option which was $30 per line per month for a crap amount of data (120MB I think) and calls were $1/minute.

You have to activate the feature though. We did it by calling but you may be able to activate it online. The feature on their website states: "While in Mexico, enjoy unlimited talk to the U.S. and within Mexico, unlimited text, and 1GB of data. Data overage packs are applied at $20 per 1GB."

So, to recap, according to AT+T, phone calls + text messages while in Mexico would be treated as if you were in the USA. And 1GB of data per line.

This was on my to-do list this week (I had tried calling last night and got disconnected)!! This is an amazing upgrade and we are all signed up for Mexico call/texting/data too! You can activate it through the app...very simple to do!

Cool, I checked and they had automatically added it to our plan. It shows online as AT&T Mexico Roaming Bonus with a charge of $0.00. Sweet deal since we are looking at multiple trips a year now that our kids have grown.

I'm so glad they're doing this as we were considering switching to T-Mobile mostly for their Mexico plan lol.

This saves us the aggravation of buying new phones or unlocking existing ones and swapping out SIM cards.

I hope the other big carriers are on board with this, too!

I just got off the phone with ATT customer service trying to get this activated and she said it's free calls TO MEXICO not when you are IN Mexico....

So I questioned her and asked her to go check. She put me on hold and then came back and said yes, she could do that and no, no extra charge (unless you go over as stated in the OP). I guess this only went into effect 11/13 and she had not yet heard about it. I am a call center supervisor and let me tell you, she must have missed an email somewhere lol...

So if you get a customer service person who doesn't know or says it's not possible, question them. Sometimes it pays to be aggressive! ;)

Keep in mind this is only if you have a mobile share package. Those of us still lucky enough to have Unlimited data get the shaft on this deal. I would have had to change my package to make it work. Wasn't worth losing the unlimited data and being charged more per month just for a once or twice a year trip to Mexico. I'll pay $60 each time and get a little bit of coverage.

I activated it online today. As RicknAmanda pointed out this is only if you have a mobile share package.

I received a text today from AT&T advising that it had been added to my account.
