Ok, today Dale Earnhart Jr. announced he is leaving DEI and going to race for another team next year. As the speculated, kyle bucsh will be leaving and he will 60-70% be driving the number 5 car! If not, I got the number 25 as well since he might be in that! I went on godaddy.com and bought:

    www.DALEJR5ONLINE.com
    www.DALEJR5.org
    www.DALEJR5.info

    www.DALEJR25ONLINE.com
    www.DALEJR25.net
    www.DALEJR25.info

    www.DALEJRHMS.com (hendrick motor sports)

I paid a total of $18.61 PER 3 listings, so almost 40.00 total for 1 year!

these are the kinds of things that usually make hundreds of thousands of dollars. Depending. I just put them for sale on ebay, just seeing if anyone will bite. What do you guys think, dumb idea???

Parked websites registered with ICANN no longer sell for $5k+

The laws changed in 2005 regarding parked websites. It's extremely detailed, but the simplified version basically states that all a business has to do is file a request with ICANN to obtain ownership of a domain name. If the request is approved, the company will be charged transfer fees (normally $12 USD) and will need to reimburse the remainder of the contract ($0.75 to $0.90 per month) that was prepayed on original registration - and that's it.

That's the rules for parked websites to prevent extortion. The rules regarding active websites are a little different and take into consideration history of website, age of website, website rankings in the search pages, if they belong to an individual or a company, profit the website generates, information or product provided relevant to domain name and other factors. If a company wishes to get ownership of an already active website, they normally make an offer to the current owner, as it can be cheaper than fighting it out through the legal system.

My adivce... do something with them to show that you're just not parking them. It's a little more time consuming, but a free buck isn't as easy to come by anymore... What was Dennis' line? DO WORK SON!

If you've done some work on the site and can generate some traffic, the higher your offer will be. If you just sit on them, they can be pulled from you, and you'll be out whatever money it cost you.

only pulled if dale jr in fact wants the domain name, which he wont since he uses dalejr.com! I dont feel like hosting anything on it, unless someone wants to go partners and do that haha but sponsors will pay LOTS for these sometimes!! We will see...........

Chances are that any sponsor or entity affiliated with Dale Jr. already has the domain names they would need locked down and accounted for. Besides, like Waste said, the new laws make it near impossible to make money through extorting money out of people to use a certain domain name.

A sponsor would probably be looking to use their own website URL either on its own or as a link directly from the official Dale Jr website. They probably would shy away from un-official sites.

Incorrect. Any registered company or person who sells or promotes a product or service with a strong relation to the domain name can make a legitimate request.

One of my parked sites was nearly pulled from me last year from a person in Florida. He started a tech review newsletter in University. After graduating, he named his newsletter the same name as my website. He put a request in for the website and won due to the fact that the newsletter was in existence for 3 years and had a readership of over 4k readers. It wasn't a company name, or a person's name, or even a pets name. It was the brand new name of his newsletter. Because my website was parked, he won.

It took me 3 weeks to get the situation resolved and to get the website back. I had to show that I had a registered company with the same name for over 2 years, and although the website wasn't active, the domain was being used for email forwarding. In all fairness, the company name and the extreme amount of spam sent to those email addresses is what saved it.

The domain and company are one of the many projects I've been meaning to start and spend some time with, but haven't yet. Had it not been for the amount of spam I receive, I don't think papers from an inactive company would of been enough.

In the end, he offered to pay for transfer fees and the rest of my contract plust $200. I refused. Had it gone legal, he probably would of won... but I think $200 was the extent of his budget. It was cheaper for him to chose a new name.

wow, crazy stuff!! Im thinking of actually putting something up on a few of the domains! Possibly just turn them info fan sites, and still keep them for sale on the net incase someone wants to buy them!

Great idea! I'd give your consultant a raise. In dollars, not %, since you don't pay me anything now anyways...

Easiest way to do it is to build a micro site. Since all websites are the same, just upload the microsite to each site. Make sure they all link to each other, as it helps with rankings when hit with search spiders.
