we will be taking another trip over to Isla Mujeres when we go in april. we have always walked but thinking of renting a golf cart this time for the 4 of us.

For those who have rented before a few questions,

    - Is there more than one place? Any better than the other?
    - Rates? hourly, half day? full day?
    - What is required? just drivers licence?

    - Any issues?

    Any other helpfull info?

    Thanks

Make a day of it. There are lots of little cantinas to stop at on your journey so take your time and be sure to stop at Oscar's and Villa La Bella. Have fun. The golf carts are the only way to go.

Definitely get a cart. $500 peso per day approximately. There is a place called "The Joint" about halfway around the Island. Outstanding mexican food. Don't miss it! It's a craphole on the side of the hill that is far too easy to pass by.

The prices had gone up from 40 to 50 dollars a day in October. The island is way too big to walk. I'd recommend going south to the end of the isla. There's a rocky outcropping with shit tons of Iguanas. A light house and a Ruined myan temple. If you go early enough in the day by ferry, try the day resort with the ziplines. It's fun and all inclusive. There's also a sea turtle recovery center and aquarium a well as a swim with the dolphins place. Polished conch shell for sale everywhere for cheap and get a coco fresca. Cold coconut with a straw. Oh and get a quart of beer and chug away. I've never been hassled riding around with a beer between my legs. As a matter of fact I have a pic of my wife before she passed away hugging a cop in our cart holding a quart!! Good times!!!

We have done it many times. Recommend getting the first ferry and renting for the day if you really want to take the time and explore the island. Don't be scared, take the time to go up and down all the side streets to see how people really live. It is impossible to get lost. Stop at every little corner store and grab a beer for the road. We always stop in town at JAX Bar n Grill. Owned by an American couple. Great safe food and reasonable.

right across from the ferry docks theirs also a place on the next street, prices run about $40-$50 for the day and you will need a drivers lic. it is alot of fun just driving around and getting lost. deff hit the south end lots of little restaurants/stores and such all over.

If you have 4 people, ask for the carts that have two forward-facing seats(like a car). We find these are better than when two people are facing backwards. We also bring a soft sided cooler so we can load up with beer & ice.
