I have a ton of questions---- I have been on this site before and I know I have seen how to post pictures and an avatar. Sorry for asking this Question again. I don't know if it is our settings. My husband is the computer geek but he prefers another site that is similar (im sure you know which one I'm talking about) We were in TTR the first week of August and can't wait to go back. Hopefully the end of May Would love to share pictures. How does the pm work? Can't wait to here nice shoes M
This from Steve's opening page called How to use the board and FAQ, he has a lot of useful tips on that page. Avatars An avatar is the little photo, normally a photo of the actual person making the post (but doesnt have to be), that appears next to your name on the left hand side of a message. You can set this up in two ways: a) the same way as adding a regular photo (see thread here) and paste it into your profile BUT please only do this if you know how to resize a photo to make it to ideally no more than 115 pixels. If you add a photo that is too large your avatar will take up the whole screen and you'll look a little silly If you dont know how to do that then; b) attach any photo to an email and send it to me steve@cancuncare.com I will crop the photo for you, reduce it to the appropriate size, host it on the cancuncare server and set up the appropriate link in your profile. PLEASE remember to tell me your username in the email, or I wont know which profile to add it to. I dont mind changing avatars every so often but please dont send me a new one every day and then decide to go back to an old one. Each one takes me about 5-10 minutes and we have almost 5,000 members. What makes a good avatar The area that you want to show should fill the photo as much as possible, no point using a shot of you in the distance, because once it is reduced down you will be a speck that can hardly be seen. Also, as I often need to crop avatars, if I have to crop a small area and make it fit the 115 pixel guidelines then the quality is going to be much reduced too. Make sure the subject fills the photo as much as possible. For techies, I generally reduce the photos to a quality of 70%, for ladies I am kinder Surprisingly, cell phone and webcam photos work quite well, since I have to reduce and then sharpen them the photo is often better quality than the original once optimised. Private Messages You can send a private message (often abbreviated as PM) to any other registered member. You can do this in two ways: a) at the end of every post there is a button which says PM, you can just click this or b) you can click the private messages link at the top of the board and type in the username of the person you want to send the message too. in both cases it will open a similar window to if you were writing a regular post. Fill in your message and hit send. You have an inbox, outbox and sentbox, each holds 25 messages. When you send a message it will first appear in your sentbox, when the person reads the message it will move to your outbox. This way you know whether the person has seen your message regardless of whether you have received a reply. Every time you send a PM the person should receive an email notification alerting them to this. Sometimes though spam filters on your email account may incorrectly flag it as spam so you may not alway see it, depending on your email configuration - aol is particularly bad at this. If you are logged in when you receive a PM, unless you have a pop up blocker installed, you should see a small popup letting you know that a PM has arrived. If you are not logged in then the pop up will appear as soon as you do log in.
