On our first trip to Cancun we found a post on this site about bringing toys for the kids down there. We really loved the idea and have done it every time we've been. I know there's a ton of other people that would love to give back so I thought I'd post a thread. We'd like to encourage everyone to bring some toys and school supplies to Cancun and drop them off at either the Hard Rock Cafe or the Needful Things bookstore on Avenida Coba in the center of town near Walmart. If you're thinking that it would cost too much to buy toys for the kids, we get our stuff at the dollar store to maximize the stuff we can get. Try to avoid anything with batteries. The simple stuff is the best. For school supplies we tend to get some notebooks, pens, pencils and markers. stuff like that. Nancy, one of the organizers, stops by every two weeks or so to collect what has been dropped off. Their official site is: www.giveatoygetasmile.org A hundred years from now It will not matter What my bank account was, The sort of house I lived in Or the kind of car I drove But the world may be different Because I was important In the life of a child
Thanks Steve getting your permission last year I assumed it was still given. Hope to see you guys this year.
Toys aren't the only thing they need. Simple school supplies like, notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks etc. Baby clothes are a good one too. Especially since some things just never even get worn before kids outgrow them.
Thanks for sharing. We will definately bring some items to donate on our trip in July. Now, if we could just find these drop off locations!
The location that we go to is the Hard Rock Cafe. It's inside the mall between Carlos and Charlie's and Coco Bongo. You can't miss it.
Bumping up. Anyone interested in bringing stuff down for the kids? Unwrapped toys, school supplies and baby clothes are great.
