One of our best friends is a 35 year old, single lady from Chicago. She asks where are the best places in Cancun to meet active, single people her age?

She's not a swinger, nor is she too happy with meeting people whose main activity is drinking the day away; but, she doesn't want to have to go to church to meet people, either. She's been to IWC meetings, so she already knows about that option. She holds a well paying, regular job here, in Cancun, so she can afford to get out and do things, if she meets people she can enjoy doing things with.

Most of her socializing, at present, is with people from work, which is fine; but, that's a limited circle and there can be complications that set in with too much socializing with the work crowd. She'd like to meet more expats her age, if possible.

I hope you don't mind that I've left out what I know of her interests/hobbies, etc. I'd rather hear your ideas along a broad front, if possible.

We don't have many friends in that age group, so any help would be appreciated.

Well I am 33....and still jobless (thank goodness for a hard working boyfriend). And I mostly just hang in my apt with my Dog...with the occasional trip to the beach or out to a club with the bf, as it's part of his job and I get to see our friends there as well.
I obviously don't have loads of $ to go out and do a whole lot, but to have some nice conversation and a few meals here and there is right up my alley. You can pass my email address onto her if you'd like.. tab0712 at aol dot com

She could join this forum. Go to a dance class, spanish class, join a gym.

Thanks for the offers and suggestions, so far.

She's an active person, who takes salsa lessons, and goes to the gym a couple of times a week. She does volunteer work. She is also a fluent speaker of Spanish.

I think it's a matter of getting involved. I've made 50% of my friends here on this board, the other 50% at the IWC and the final 50% through volunteering to help animals. And yes, I have too many friends, more than I deserve or can keep up with.

One thing you can count on with expats is that they are a friendly bunch. She just needs to get out there and be where the people are.

For an expat I'm sure Cancun would be a very lonely place without other expat friends. Most of the people I know here I met through the board either directly or indirectly. Registering and posting here would definitely be a step in the right direction to meet other folk.

And while we are on the subject, isn't it about time we had a forum get together? We've had a few in the past that worked out well.

I was thinking soon after New Year, maybe a Friday or Saturday evening? It would be in a bar (it's the easy option) somewhere central downtown.

    Anybody interested? Please see:

I guess it's just as difficult for Mexicans moving here from other cities as it is for us moving from different countries. I think we sometimes forget that.
