Hi all, haven't posted in a while. Faith and I want to get married in Cancun in May (after a 10 year engagement). We will get married before we arrive so were looking for a symbolic ceremony. Have read a little about a Mayan ceremony. Any info on this or a regular ceremony? Jimmy and Faith:aktion031:
Congrats on the wedding (about time!) Can't help much on the Mayan ceremony, but for some general advice on getting married in Cancun please see: Cancun Weddings
Thanks Steve I did check out your suggestion earlier. The reason we are looking for a symbolic ceremony is a Mexican wedding is not legal on Colorado. That eliminates the need for translating and apostleing documents. Hopefully others will chime in on my topic. Cheers jimmy:uk1:
Can you cite the Colorado Law that says so: this assertion sounds highly suspect to me. You may not want to get married here as the legal process would almost certainly be more complicated for you, but that a Mexican Marriage is "not legal" should probably not be one of the reasons.
I agree with V that the Colorado law sounds a bit off to me... I'd check it out just to be sure. I don't know much about Mayan ceremonies except that there are resorts in the Hotel Zone that offer them (Real Resorts comes to mind) Congrats!
legality V. Can't quote the law, just did a lot of research. It is legal in most states and in some it varies from county to county. I also dropped into the consulate here as it is about a mile away from our home. Wanted to find out about translating documents and the apostle process. Easier to avoid all that, see a JP here, ceremony there. Thanks for chiming in. Jimmy Gringation, We are considering the Real. I should PM Canuck. Jimmy
You would definitely find the process of getting married, officially, in Mexico, to be a little daunting, Jimmy. However, my wife and I did it, and it became a part of a very enjoyable day for us, come wedding day. We began the day with the official ceremony, at 10 AM. The Mexican Judge that married us had a very charming manner about her (we got married at Isla Mujeres, in the Judge's Chambers), and we are very proud of our "Acta Matrimonial" document, issued by the Mexican Government. At 5 PM, we had an informal ceremony at Punta Sur, Isla Mujeres, conducted by our friends and family, with the vows being those we wrote; this was followed by dinner on the beach at "Sunset Bar and Grill", North Beach, Isla. The owner, Felipe Biermann, was a gracious host and satisfied all our requests and special needs, including that of a "gluten free" meal for one of our guests.
Here's just one example of those who offer wedding services on Isla: there seem to be a number of them. Isla, for us, was the perfect venue. There is a temple to Ixchel on the southern tip of the island. http://www.sundreamers.com/aboutsundreamers.html
