Hi, Can anyone here give us any advice on Gallstones? Best natural remedies, that you can actually buy/make here in Cancun? Safest place for surgery (anyone been through it here)? Cheapest place for safe surgery? Half-decent foods that can be eaten safely? (We have a NHS diet tips sheet from England but it has English food on it)
The only thing that I might be able to help with is what NOT to eat. DO NOT eat anything with any type of fat content and especially nothing fried. Once I was diagnosed and awaiting surgery, I pretty much lived on plain white rice with soy sauce and vegetables and legumes. Dairy products raised havoc with me but beer didn't bother me at all, LOL. IMO, gallbladder pain is second only to kidney stone pain but worse than giving birth.... Hope this helps and I wish you the best for a quick resolve.
Sorry to hear about your troubles, Sam. Gallstone removal is a general sugery that could probably be done safely in many places around town; but, if your doctors think your gallstones could be dealt with through lithotripsy, which involves breaking them up so they can pass, without surgery, you'd probably be happier. Galenia advertises lithotripsy. Perhaps there are others that have that capability, as well. Good luck with it! V.
Thanks for the tips, it's not actually me that's suffering them but appreciate it though. I'll look into this lithotripsy but if Galenia is involved, i'm sure it will cost more than a small car and then they'll probably charge 20000 pesos more for the blankets on the bed and 20000 for using their electricty ;-)
Sorry, then, for who ever it is! I've talked with only one person who'd had abdominal surgery performed at Galenia and, as I recall, they said the total cost, including surgeon's fees, was $6,000 USD. There's a good chance lithotripsy would be cheaper than surgery, because it can be done on an outpatient basis.
Ouch, sorry to hear it. A friend's sister just had the surgery at Galenia and all went well, no idea how much it cost though. For the diet, keep it natural and LOW FAT, raw fruit and veg, whole grains, lots and lots of water. My dad suffered too, though his surgery was in Canada, I just had to hear about his diet for a while. Good luck!
I had to have my gall bladder taken out urgently 12 years ago and had it done at Hospital Americano which was the best hotel in town at the time. Got a doctor I had never met before but it was emergency surgery and I--like most men--am a real baby about pain. I wouldn't have cared if the janitor had cut it out with a rusty knife! I got a great, skilled doctor who used arthroscopic (sp) surgery that left no scars. Today if I had any problem I would go to Galenia. Cancun has first class hospitals, health care and doctors.
