The link below is to an article entitled: Drug violence in Mexico: Are tourist zones the latest victims? Among other good pieces of info, the article contains a link to a very detailed spreadsheet that shows drug violence by region/city/month/year. Try sorting by number of deaths by city. YIKES! Drug violence in Mexico: Are tourist zones the latest victims?
If the numbers on that spread sheet are correct, it should put everyones mind at ease for people traveling to Cancun, Isla, cozumel, Tulum etc. It really does demonstrate how drug wars have not effected this area at all. So much so it makes you wonder why people keep bringing the issue up? You've got more chance meeting a pink elephant than a drug war on Isla Mujeres Just out of curiosity, what are they telling you in the states?
) Just go to any big city in Canada, USA or Europe and you'll encounter far bigger problems with drugs and violence than in Cancun or other Mexican resort places on the Caribbean. It's that simple
Wow! Awesome spreadsheet. Assuming there are several more non-drug-related deaths, it turns out Cancun has about 1/4 the murder rate of my hometown ... little old Richmond, Virginia. I feel safer already :bandit:
I am going to Cancun for a vacation in 3 weeks. Some people are like oh, thats cool. Most people are like OMG, aren't you scared? Their ignorance is frustrating!!! I hear constantly about Ciudad Juarez, I heard of some things happening in Acapulco and Michoacan, and other places in WESTERN Mexico. I wish people would look at a map before opening their mouth to me!
