Thanks for the bump, you beat me to it.

I'm not sure why we have 30-40 locals visit the forum regularly yet only a handfull actually want to meet up at somewhere that is accessible for all and with plenty of notice. I guess we are not all the helpful friendly sociable bunch we portray ourselves as.

Needless to say, get in on it this time if you want to meet others from the forum because I dont see me organising anything else in the future.

I'd be careful with the interpretation Steve. I have many friends who are posters here that I see socially. I'm sure that also holds true for many of the other locals who are on the board. And we are helpful, friendly and sociable to and with each other.

On the other hand, I've tried to be helpful to people on this board who, using my judgement based on those peoples' postings, I choose not to be friendly and sociable with. And I'm sure that holds true for other members of the forum.

At least for me, I do not feel like a stranger in a strange land, so the need for organized clustering is not particularly pressing.

You did a good thing proposing and organizing this meetup, but you shouldn't take umbrage that there are some who don't need or want to attend.

I think Mixz1's got the right idea, and you shouldn't worry about it, Steve. Tastes range widely, too, and a beer drinking venue would not be everybody's "cup of tea", especially one where you risk an occasional whiff of "bull" (for those who don't know, this bar/restaurant is at the bullring, mentioned earlier on this forum).

Nice of you to make yourself available in this way, though. I'm sure you've got plenty of other things to do, and don't have a personal need for one more get together with total- almost- strangers.

I am a bit upset that people who made friends beside the board (which is great), but still sometimes need it (many times help too), and don't appreciate what you are doing enough to have a drink together.

Steve, YOU do NOT need us either, you spend a lot of your time and money to allow us to get precious information. And you probably have many friends from or out of the board. But don't worry, I am sure many people who have not voted will show up. We are in Mexico....

I don't feel a stranger here either, actually I am about to leave, but I always find it worthwhile to read, ask... and sometimes give my opinion or an advice if I can. And I always like to meet new persons (members of the same community).

Then, out of consideration for you I will show up, although beer is not my cup of tea either (but I guess there are other options). Thanks again. That will be my farewell drink. :beer4:

Sorry, I don't have lessons to give, I will show up because, I, too, love this board. I am on others now, I have not found anything so helpful so far, but I hope I will meet the members soon, and I will make friends with some (or many).

I appreciate greatly the chance to meet more people. As I have only actually met three or four people on here. But this date doesn't work for me. It's my bf one day off and we normally have loads to do that day. I, or we may show up in the end, but I can't commit at this moment. I know there will be other opportunities for me to say THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP in the future. Atleast I hope there is.

    Steve......

I know that the date for the proposed "get-together" was last Saturday on the 9th......and not sure if it was held or not because of the lack of positive responses from members here....... But, I started a thread on a forum, over two years ago - www.patriotguard.org

A national volunteer group made up of Viet Nam combat veterans, Gulf War combat veterans and combat veterans in Iraq and Afganistan..as well as thousands of patriotic Americans who want to honor America's Fallen Heroes.....by attending military funerals at the invitation of the family... Many of us are motorcycle riders, but that is not a requirment to volunteer for this great organization. Currently, there are 182,000 members of the Patriot Guard Riders in the United States.....from every state in the Union.

We are notified of activities where our presence is requested- by email - and if able - we attend the function. The happiest ones are the "WELCOME HOME" for returning troops...and are always well-attended, no matter the time of year! The saddest activity that we are often requested to attend - are the funerals....(I, personally have attended 31 funerals) We ride or drive to the location to await instructions from the "RIDE CAPTAIN" as to where we should be deployed with our 3' x 5' American flags - in front of a church, funeral home and finally the cemetary.

I tell this story about the PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS for many reasons....!!! #1 - I am a patriotic American citizen which will never change.

#2 - To inform the public that there are people who care and wish to honor America's Fallen Heroes - appropriately! and not like when Viet Nam combat veterans returned to the United States in 1974 - only to be spit upon...and called - "Baby Killers".......

We gather and assemble for the all too many funerals - shaking hands and hugging other members in a brotherly and sisterly way...do our duty......and return home....!!!

The forum which I had started over 2 years ago...was started with the intention of communicating with one another to help people cheer up from the sad duties for which we have volunteered.

The title of this forum is: GOOD MORNING MASSACHUSETTS PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS - where people could post photos of family, pets - etc.... Tell jokes, tell how my day is going..and anything else they felt like posting....!! Over this 2 year + period of time....we have had over 8,000 viewers......BUT......only.....about 10-20 posters......!!!! People are interested and love to read the posts for whatever reason........but are hesitant about posting and are "happy" just reading........AND....if it helps them through the day....all the more power to them.

After this "long-winded" presentation.........It is apparent that many people on the Cancuncare may be similar to those on my forum...where they are just happy to either post information...or happy to just read it..! And.....never have any intention or Desire to meet any of the people from the forum.....

I think you're suggesting that this may be the case, and is not a bad thing, in itself.

In addition to those who read this forum, there are those who take pleasure in presenting their thoughts for others to react to- in a way, to have a conversation with strangers; those who enjoy sharing knowledge and information; and, those who enjoy offering assistance by way of advice, who constitute the active posters. Their collective contributions make this forum one of the more diverse and interesting in this part of Mexico.

Those who make an effort to get acquainted may have spotted in another a shared interest, activity (several of the posters make their livings in similar or related activities, for example), or background- a process not unlike the way we seek and find friends, generally.

Although I couldn't attend (was just getting over the flu, and the weather seemed inauspicious), I appreciated Steve's willingness to make himself available to us in this way- totally unnecessary, and therefore, generous.
