Anyone who sees me on facebook knows that I've been intently following the story of the fire affecting Ft. McMurray, Alberta right now. Additionally I know several TTR regulars that either have worked there or live there. Right now the entire city of 88,000 is evacuated and at least 1600 homes so far have been burned down. The reason I'm putting this here is to: 1) Say to anyone from Ft. Mc. on here, I (we) are all thinking of you right now. 2) To say thank you to Mexico for providing 5 dozen firefighters who are about to be deployed on this fire. 62 Mexican firefighters join wildfire fight in northern Alberta - Edmonton - CBC News Let's all hope that no one gets hurt and the damage is left at a minimum.
Some Fort Mac folks we know from TTR are in our thoughts the past few days. May they get through this quickly
I've been watching it regularly....being that Ira and I are Cape Bretoner's we have more family & friends out in Fort Mac then we do have left on the island lol I just hope this will all be just a bad memory for them soon. Nikki
Yes, we know a few TTR people who have been displaced so watching the video feeds has us feeling for them. Thankfully, due to the well-executed evacuation, there has been no loss of life or major injury thus far. Out of 93,000 people affected that's incredible. The scale of that fire, the resulting damage/impact, is arguably the worst Canada has seen and many areas in western Canada are ahead of schedule as far as ground/forest dryness goes. Please send rain, and lots of it.
Wow! Mexican firefighters? That's awesome.. every little bit helps. It is just unbelievable bad, apocoliptic like out of the movies only a real nightmare that real people can't wake up from. My husbands son evacuated and he can't sleep at night cause he keeps dreaming of the fires
I and my family escaped from the fires twice, unfortunately my mother lost her house and unfortunately finds out she has no insurance. So far our house was missed by a couple hundred yards. We are all safe and are fortunate enough to have a second home in another part of the province. I can't thank all the volunteers enough, never witnessed or seen how people come together at some of the most life changing moments ever recorded.
Glad to hear you guys are OK! Most likely because this fire is affecting so many people the Alberta government will create a disaster recovery program fund like they did for the High River floods. So there's still plenty of hope for your mom! I hope everything turns out alright for you guys and every one from McMurray!
Thanks so much, the support has been amazing all around. We are hoping for a miracle. My mom is heart broken, and so are we.
