Recently, faced with a long line at passport control, we got in the line for Mexicans. Holding FM2s and FM3s we hoped they would allow it, and they did.

What have other holders of migratory documents experienced with this? Does passport control routinely allow you to join the Mexican line? It makes a big difference, if they will.

I always go through the Mexican line - I'm with my Mexican girlfriend though so didn't know if that helped. I guess if you're doing it as well with no probs then it's allowed.

Tracey, did you shout back, ¨We are RESIDENTS!¨

Maybe that would have made a difference to him, if he suspected you were just tourists, here, trying to jump the line.

I was once directed to the Mexican line by a security officer, after he saw my FM2. The immigration officer did seem concerned that I was not a Mexican. That being said, I've never gone into the Mexican line by choice since then.

An interesting discussion...I would ask (politely) and wait for directions. Couple months ago I witnessed a large group of tourists trying to use the line. I can see why the officer(s) may get a bit uneasy with Non-Mexicans using the lane.

We very politely showed them our then green FM3 booklet- that seemed to enrage him further :(

Sorry to hear that. When we tried, there was no one in the Mexican line. I can't remember much about what happened except that I marched up to the station and greeted the person loudly in Spanish, as if I expected him to serve us. Perhaps I was just lucky, but my wife did the same thing in another Mexican line, with no objections.

I hate being embarrassed in public as much as the next person, but I might have responded to a rebuff with a request to see the book for quejas.
