Well, with a day off today, figured I could get to bed later than usual last night and had to go see the new Saw movie. I've been a big fan of them since they started and will be the first to admit, I went into this one thinking my goodness will it ever stop? With that in mind, this movie actually really impressed me, and in a way revived a dying series. The original Saw set the standard, and Saw II followed with a good showing, however after that it seemed to be going downhill. III and IV were absolutely awful, and V started to get back on track. Saw VI had the typical gruesome traps and somewhat over the top gorey moments but had a very well thought out plot to it. As in a few others, this one wasnt as predictable and threw a bunch of curveballs. It also left the door open for the 7th and (allegedly) final movie. If you've followed the movies, it's a must see, if you havent followed them, or only seen a few, they pretty much show the end of the 5th one at the beginning. Fletch's movie rating: 7 out of 10 Later on that night I turned the TV on and saw Slumdog Millionaire was playing on HBO or one of those channels, but was halfway through, so I decided to record a later showing of it to watch today. I'll tell ya, when it came out in the theater, I had absolutely no interest in seeing this film, enter the awards shows. I saw a few awards shows and I believe it was the Oscars where this movie cleaned house, picking up every big name award out there. I had to see it after that to see if the hype was worth it. It was. Not too often we get to see a movie that is so emotionally drawn out you cant help but stay captivated through the entire thing. This movie delivers performances by actors you never heard of and that is what I think makes it such an incredible picture. I really liked the fact that it was one storyline, plus an entire movie of flashbacks leading up to the main focal point of the story. It was cool to see the characters evolve throughout the story and go through all the trials and tribulations. This movie had a bit of everything too which was nice; Action, Romance, Comedy, Emotion, the whole 9. I love it. Will absolutely be watching it again soon. Fletch's Movie Rating: 10 out of 10 (unprecedented rating, I think I've only given 2 or 3 of these out)
Did you know Slumdog Millionaire was partially filmed in Cancun? The below scene was shot at the bottom of the Senor Frogs Water Slide
