I know EVERYONE is headed to Temptations to study debauchery but I was thinking about trying to get some fishing in, you know, to help with the recovery of the wild night before. Has anyone gone out on any charters in Cancun and what can you tell me? I'm not looking to land the monster Marlin or anything but I thought it would be cool to get out on the water for something other than a Boobs Cruise...
A while back, I went on a private 1/2 day fishing trip. It was awesome. A little spendy (about $500) but it was just me and a buddy. No one else. All the food/beer/booze you can handle. Great crew. It was a blast.
Sam: We chartered a boat from the marina behind Carlos and Charlies. Caught a boatload of Amberjack. I think it was around $600 which is less than half what we pay in Florida.
I've heard the fishing is hit or miss. Might be better off booking an excursion to the ruins or zip lines.
You can get shared boat between 6 people for less money per person, not sure who gets the chair? ? Whoever has a fish on the line? . . it may not be as great as your own charter, but it is cheaper? ?
We chartered a boat in May for half day trip to troll not bottom fish.We used the people to the left of the resort (looking at the water) down pass the massage huts. We went down the day before to work out the details and pick out the boat and get the rate. All was good till the next morning when we arrived our boat was gone so they put us on a smaller boat which would have been fine but we were taking our wives so it made it a little crowed. There were three of us going to fish so off we went there was four to five foot swells and the captain was like a cat with a bottle rocket stuck in his ass so we rode for about an hour to hour and a half before the first line was put out. So we started to troll and in about half hour we had our first fish which was a nice tuna all was good started trolling again and hooked a Marlin and man what a site that was soon as they released the Marlin the captain says fishing trip is over and this is where it started to get ugly. One of the guys didn't even get to touch a fishing pole and we still had another good two and a half hours to fish and this man is a huge and I thought shit was going to get real ugly. So when we started back the captain took his time and that didn't help. When we got back and we went to the office to talk about how they were trying to screw us and we were not happy. After a few words and the police show up I'm like we sure don't want to go to jail in Mexico over a fishing trip.
me and my son went on the same one but we book It through steve IT was 125.00 per person with 6 pepole for 6 hrs we cought 22 barracuda It was In sept and thats what was biting every body got to catch fish
WOW! Sounds like a horrible way to do biz. Been thru the police deal too, over unfullfilled services rendered. Seems 'callin the policia' is the (go to) move when they are tryin to rip you off. Some of the locals are real scam artists.
Yes Marshe it was a bad deal but we were on their turf so they know they have you. I guess all I'm saying we would go again but not with them and if they would have done the trip as planed it would have been great.
If you are serious, check out Ricks sportfishing. It is not in Cancun it is down the highway at Peurto Adventuras (that may not be the correct spelling) Lots of boat choices or options on groups, very professional and they know how to fish They hooked us up with 3 sailfish on our day plus dorado and barracuda. Good luck!
