First of all a big thanks to everyone who has taken the time to share resort info, trip reports, pictures and tips with the forum….. what a great resource this is for first timers. Tam and I wanted to take a different kind of vacation after sending our last kiddo off to college this last August. We weren’t sure where we wanted to go, just somewhere warm, fun, and different. After doing some research, I happened across this forum and learned about TTR. Some of the other resorts(Desire, Hidden Beach , Hedo) we found seemed a little ‘heavier’ than what we were looking for , so after registering on the forum and getting to know some of the members, we decided that this was the place. Actually, it was Rob’s past booze cruise pics that sealed the deal for us ….it just looked like such a good time. We booked our room through Skoosh and airfare through AirGorilla and everything went fine. Arrived on the ground at around 12:30pm on 9/3/09 and went through customs. Tam got the ‘Red Light’ so we had to have our bags checked….bummer. USA transfer guys were there waiting for us and took us to TTR without a hitch. Since we were a little early for check in, they sent us to the welcoming desk and tried to get us to sign up for the timeshare tour. We passed, but they were persistent….kind of a pain, but we’ve been through it before and just had no interest in the tour, especially since our stay was only a short 4 days. Finally got to our room, got changed, and headed to the pool. I fetched a couple of drinks and found a place to set our towels, and then hit the pool. It was like getting into a big bathtub…water was nice and warm. Met a couple guys from Montreal right off the bat and talked to them for awhile….really nice guys. They were leaving the next day, so they filled us in on where to eat and shared some other helpful tips with us. Several drinks and a good stout buzz on, we stumbled back to the room to clean up, and then on to dinner and later lingerie night at Pady-O’s. After dinner we changed into our PJ’s and went down to check things out. There were only a few people that dressed for it, so Tam wanted to go back up and change into regular clothes. We went back up, changed, came back down and had a couple of drinks and called it a night. It was brutally hot in Pady-O’s that night with no breeze at all. The action was just so-so. With all the travel and starting our day at 3:30 am…we were both gassed and ready for bed. Got up around 7:00 am the next morning and went down to eat breakfast and claim a couple of loungers. Couldn’t believe that they were already picked over at a little after 7:00am. Had to settle for a couple of loungers in the back row. Breakfasts at the resort are great. Just watching the cook make omelettes was great entertainment…she was a machine!!! Service was always top notch at the restaurants…..much different than what we are used to on the islands. The attitude on the islands is we’ll get there when we get there. In Cancun they work their arses off to make sure you are taken care of…..loved their attitude. There were a few exceptions, but not in the restaurants….service was awesome. When we first arrived there wasn’t a fridge in the room. The bellman said he’d take care of it. Next day it still hadn’t been taken care of and we went to the front desk. They said they could put us in a different room the next day…WTF? I said screw it!! I couldn’t believe they couldn’t get a fridge from another room and be done with it. We finally got one on our last night there….pissed me off….but sh!t happens. We spent Friday and Saturday at the pool enjoying drinks and meeting people. I think we met most of the CC forum peeps with the exception of a few. Hard to explain, but we felt a little awkward because it was our first time at the resort, neither of us have been at a resort like this, and truth be told, we can be a bit on the reserved or shy side. I like to think we are friendly types, but we are not super outgoing when it comes to mingling with groups of people we've never met. Maybe it comes from spending the last 28 years of our lives raising kids, coaching kids, and going to parent teacher conferences that left us feeling a bit out of place. We still had an awesome time, and actually started to feel a lot more comfortable by the time Sunday rolled around for the Booze Cruise. What a blast that was!!! Definitely the highlight of the trip. The antics of a couple of the crew guys were a little cheesy, but they were just trying to have fun…..and we had a great time. We went from feeling a bit nervous and awkward the first day, to swimming nekkid with a bunch of fellow booze cruisers…what a hoot!! Got back on the boat and no shorts to be found!!! One of the crew guys hid them and wouldn’t tell me where they were. It was funny for the first five minutes sitting there bare assed nekkid and shriveled :? …lol. Tam finally threw me a towel before I came too unglued….I finally got them back after about 15 minutes. She still gives me sh!t about that one. Like so many have said before, what makes this resort so special is the people that go there. Tequila Ken is one of the first people we met….what a nice guy he is. Tam and I just love this guy. If he wasn’t giving away shots of Tequila, or passing out chocolate, he was stopping to shoot the poop and see if we were having fun. The world would be a better place with more TKen’s in it….thanks, Ken for making us feel so welcome. Met Rob and T on Friday morning I believe. It’s interesting how after communicating with people through the forum you have a perception of what they are like. Rob was a bit more soft spoken than I expected…super nice guy and really seems to enjoy seeing others enjoying themselves. I think Rob and T sensed our nervousness the first day and offered some encouraging words that were most appreciated. Thanks again Rob and T….you two are awesome. So many others we met….Mikey should be the TTR poster child…the guy has so much fun. His wife Melissa is an absolute pistol and such a cutie. Met Terry and Kat, Dave and Rose, Les and Lynfa, Jan and Scott, Bart and Annette, Steve and Janet, the ranchbums....and many more that I can't recall right now....all great people. Thanks again to Rob and Steve for putting the BoozeCruise together......we look forward to the next time. I'll try to add a few pics here later. Danno Here's a few forum friendly pics.....
