Hello, we are coming to Cancun for the first time on 9/15 for 6 days. Have traveled the Pacific side for 8 years. Can anyone tell me if there is Victoria beer for sale there? Are the Public buses A good source of travel? thanks, Al
Victoria...the patron beer of the Mexican construction worker is proudly sold in every corner store here.
Public Buses are a great way to get around inside the Hotel Zone, and much cheaper than a taxi, but for the price, once you are outside the hotel zone you are better off using a Taxi. What many locals do is use taxis exclusively outside the Hotel Zone. When we want to go to the hotel zone, we take a taxi to just outside the Hotel Zone, and then take the bus into the hotel zone. A Taxi inside the hotel zone starts at 80 pesos (it changes). Taxis outside the hotel zone are 20 pesos to pretty much anywhere you want to go outside the hotel zone. Being that you are a tourist they might try to charge you more. If you take a taxi outside the hotel zone to a location outside the hotel zone, you should never have to pay more than 30 pesos. Make sure to ask the price first, and don't be shy to tell them you know the go rate is 20 pesos. So you like vicotoria? Have you tried the Bohemias? They are my favorite beers here in Mexico, specially the dark one (the one with the silver top) One last word of advice, once you are here take the time to visit a cenote and an archeological site.
Well I hate to contradict Manny but taxis En Centro are generally 20 pesos to anywhere else En Centro where a tourist would be expected to go, as he says, BUT, at sitios (taxi stands) the price goes up to 30 or 35 pesos. Examples of sitios would be Walmart, the main bus station, Plaza las Americas and Market 28, and these are places where lots of tourists go. If you want to save the extra 10-15 pesos, you can simply walk out to the public street and flag down a cab and the fare is 20 pesos. And there are exceptions to this but if you are a tourist you don't want to go to the zones where the fare goes up downtown.
Yes TJ is correct, and I did forget to mention it, that Taxi's at "sitios" do charge a small surcharge. Places like right outside the ADO station, walmart, outside puerto juarez etc. (basically where ever you see Taxis lined up). Often you can walk a very short distance and flag down a taxi and pay the regular fee. The key here is to set the price before the taxi driver takes off. If you ask him "how much" at the end of the trip, he can charge you what ever he wants (with in reason), and you will have to pay it.
