We just got back from our second trip yesterday. We got a jacuzzi room with an Expedia sale, so it was actually less than a regular room. We used the jacuzzi about 3 times, so it's probably not something I'd get again unless there was a sale, but it was in a great location and the patio was nice and large. We went for 10 days this time instead of 14 and it was just enough that my liver isn't extremely angry this time. A few things I noticed/experienced this trip: - The food seemed to be a lot better this year. To be fair, I was having stomach issues last year and wasn't eating a lot, so I found it hard to find much that I liked. We didn't care for the seafood restaurant this time though. They took off the surf and turf and put it on the premiere menu. That was the only reason I went there. I already miss the beef carpaccio at the Italian restaurant! - Drinks were ok. I have a hard time finding anything I can stick with for any length of time. I don't care for their beer and I find their juice tastes kind of weird. It's like they put sweetener in everything. - Service was generally good everywhere. Same as last year. We did have one bad experience at Margarita's at lunch, but that was it. - I woke up with a really bad sore throat about the 2nd or 3rd day which lasted for a couple of days and progressed into a chest infection. I found my throat got worse if I left the AC on at night. I wasn't super sick, but it took a lot of energy out of me so we rarely made it out at night after dinner. There were a couple of days when it was really hot and I was shivering uncontrollably in the pool. I'm not sure if it was from that or heat exhaustion! It sounds like this has been going around for a bit. Luckily my husband didn't get it! - The music at the pool sucked this year. The mornings and early afternoons the DJ played recognizable songs turned into lounge tunes. If it wasn't that, he would play a long stream of 80s/90s music in about 20 second increments before a new song came on. It was like a commercial for a CD compilation where all the names of the songs scroll up the screen. Once the party picked up, he'd play full, normal songs, but it would be one dance song, followed by a country song, followed by a rock song. It just didn't flow at all. - The timeshare people were not pushy at all this time. Big win! - We went on two Boobs Cruises! April 24 and April 30. We were supposed to go on the 28th, but my throat was still hurting, so luckily Steve let us switch dates (thanks again, Steve!). They were both fun, but I didn't drink as much on the 2nd one. It was choppy out there and I started to feel a little sea sick at the beginning, so I took it slow. When we got back, I went to get ready for dinner and it felt like I was still on the boat and it lasted the rest of the night. It was an awful feeling! It went away after sleeping it off at least. Grand Oasis Viva: Yesterday we left at 3 pm, so we decided to check out GOV. We walked in and a bellboy stopped us since we weren't wearing bracelets. We asked if we could get a tour so he sent us to check in. We asked there and he told us to ask the bell desk and/or security. Clearly the bellboy knew nothing and we didn't see security, so we just started walking around on our own! lol The lobby and outdoor space is beautiful! Very well kept and the beach is much nicer than TTR. The crowd looked a bit on the younger side when we were there. I'd say in their 20s mostly, but they didn't seem obnoxious or anything. There were people partying in the pool, but it wasn't as packed as the Sexy Pool would be at that time. I didn't see one topless person there, but there were signs. They had music at the pool and also at the beach so people were hanging out all over the place and not confined to one area. The second pool had a lot of shade and seemed more like a "quiet" pool. I noticed there was a long line up at the outdoor burger hut. It looked like the other restaurants around the pool/beach area were closed at that time (around lunch time). It definitely intrigued me enough that I might try it. Maybe 10 days at TTR and 4 days there. I find 14 days is too long at TTR (my liver can't handle it), but it would be nice to have a full two weeks in Cancun.
I,m still coughing 13 days later, but don't feel sick Sure wish they would find the source, a few others were ill too
Did you get anything for it? I don't know if I should bother. I want to see if it will clear up on it's own first now that I'm out of the humidity.
Did 10 days of cipro,, seeing doc on 14th. getting better every day, but like you said it takes the wind out of your sails.
Thanks for the trip report . Sorry you got sick ! Do you know or have you heard if it's just a certain area of rooms that are getting ppl. sick or is it any given room ?
My friend was down there at the same time as Donald and tells me nobody in his group got sick. Seems pretty random. Hope you feel better soon Donald.
