If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test! If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed. If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.. If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone. If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect. If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him. If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down. If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion,like Islam & Buddhism or Scientology & The Baha's Faith To name just a few !!!) If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it. A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his. jmho
Very true...I mean, it gets heated...he starts yelling, and calls me "cynical and heartless" and I call him a "frickin bleeding heart liberal" lol...but yeah making up is VERY nice...Hmmmm maybe I should pick more fights haha
If, at any point, the United States collapses, as the Soviet Union did, it will be for much the same reason, that "ideology" got in the way of clear thinking about how to manage the country, and to solve its problems. I'd like to suggest a third category: those who subscribe to no ideology except what's good for the country.
I have been thinking quite a bit about this post, especially statement number 1 and statement number 7. Also the context of the post, if you are a liberal you are a bad person??? If nationalized health care and legislated gun control makes one a liberal, then we are all going to hell in a hand basket. Or are we? We have been debating the same thing for months now. Canada and the UK have nationalized health care and legislated gun control, they also have a higher life expectancy, a lower homicide rate, a smaller prison population, being a liberal can't be all that bad then can it?? Would these things work in the US. I suspect so, but not right away, probably after a few generation, perhaps 50 years down the road...but what happened if it didn't work, what happened if we did this big experiment and 50 years later we deemed that it was unsuccessful. Not only that, but as Ed, Jamie and Zackman have all made abundantly clear, the US is broke (so is most other 1st world countries, but I digress). So I am not going to propose that you adopt those things that so clearly work in Canada and the UK, I have no idea if they will ultimately work, and as so many of you that post on this board and reside in the US are as vehemently opposed as you are, why would I suggest it. However, to denegrate entire societies because they are "liberals", is just as offensive to me as it is to you that I propose that you adopt our rules. Statement number 3 is actually pretty hilarious. "If a conservative is a homosexual, he keeps it to himself"...Blah, blah, blah, let's rewrite and play out that scenario. If a conservative is a homosexual he hides it in the closet. He makes a conscious decision to keep it to himself. He acts as a heterosexual, he goes out and gets married, he has children, he buys into the dream... A few years later when he can no longer keep his normal feelings to himself he begins to act upon his feelings, but...What if his family finds out, what if his neighbours find out, what if his employers or colleagues find out, WHAT IF HIS CHURCH FINDS OUT!!! So he does it all clandestine like. He sneaks around, he takes on risky behaviour, he has bathroom sex with complete strangers. Eventually everyone finds out. The really hilarious ones are the Republican Politicians, the ones that stand in their pulpits and denounce homosexuality as a threat against mankind. The ones that are soon found out to be actual hypocrites, they get caught messing around with a member of the same sex. They are forced to stand in the same pulpit, publicly humiliated, and explain to their public while their dutiful wife looks on. Hilarious!! Actually, why do we bother with the whole liberal/conservative thing, maybe we should just drop it. I get it,...the Democrats are bad and just want to spend money. The Republican's are good and just want to save money and reduce taxes. The first US election I remember was Jimmy Carter in 1976. He was in for 4 years, then the Republican's with Ronald Reagan and George Bush senior for 12 years, Clinton for 8 years then Bush junior for 8 years and finally bad Obama for the last 2 years. So in the last 34 years, Republican's have been in power for 20 years, but the deficit, the poor decisions and everything else that is wrong with the US is the Democrat's fault. I think it is just as much the Republican's as it is the Democrat's. JMHO...
