11:01 AM CDT on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 KHOU.com staff report FEMA housing aid for Katrina, Rita victims to expire in March HOUSTON—FEMA has paid nearly $3 billion in hotel bills and rent for the victims of Katrina and Rita, according to government statistics. It’s the costliest emergency housing effort in the country’s history. Federal aid for the victims is scheduled to expire in March of 2009. When that happens, many housing advocates worry those who depend on it won’t have anywhere to go.
Wonder if they will have to rethink this plan after Gustav. Hard telling where it will be heading or how strong it will get. I also wonder how many of these people were/are in dispute with their insurance companies versus those who were uninsured period. I have to feel for those who are really trying to get it back together. I'm sure that there are those who haven't tried at all to put the pieces back together. But it is truly sad for those are trying and can't get back to where they once were.
I wonder.... 3 years and still have to live rent free? I think there are a lot of folks that are milking the system. Oh there may be those that truly have problems, but I can't believe that the rest of the Gulf has picked themselves back up with a whole lot less government assistance and those from NO seem to be stuck in the twilight zone. But you say anything about it and you will be branded a racist. You know just like the Dems are complaining about being called non patriotic if you question the military application. There were a lot of folks here in Denver that were arrested because they tried to pass themselves off and folks from NO to get the handouts. Jamie
