There is a story in the Toronto newspapers about a fatality at the hotel, does anyone know what is going on, the reports here say it was suicide.
It appears to be a suicide. Local papers say the young couple had been drinking, fighting and the boyfriend said he had just told her the romance was over and she jumped off the balcony. So very tragic, she was just 19. The boyfriend was held and questioned for 48 hours then released.
The local news reports I've read concur with CC's above. How long before the conspiracy theories start though?
Permanent solution to a temporary problem. I'm sure that things would have looked a lot differently after sobering up. RIP.
I know the family of this boy and it is indeed very tragic. The two kids involved were very in love but were also very drunk and as it happens so frequently when we are too young to handle our liquor, they fought over jealousy and it spun out of control. I don't think she meant to jump but was sitting on the balcony wall threatening to jump because he told her thier year long relationship was over and he was booking a flight home, when he couldn't make sense to her and get her off the wall, he gave up and went into the room and promptly passed out. I am thinking she lost her balance. That may not be but in any case he did not see her go over. I know that this type of thing always looks suspect and he probably should have called some on to help but as I stated both kids were very intoxocated. Her blood alcohol came back over .2. His was close to the same or more I am sure. The Canadian Consulate was involved at every step of the investigation. Pray for the family of these kids and for the boy who must face the guilt that he will always live with. Her funeral is today. Bless you Shane and rest in peace Giannia!
Very sad. People sometimes make bad decisions and this is a case where it was a tragic one, no matter what the facts were as to whether she fell or jumped.
Very sad that in such a beautiful place, someone would choose this course of action. Prayers to the family...
